LNP – Indian woman arrested at Katunayake airport with Rs. 65 Mn worth of cocaine

An Indian woman was arrested at Katunayake Airport this morning (06) by officers of the Police Narcotics Bureau with cocaine worth Rs. 65 million.Â

The 29-year-old chef from Mizoram, India, had arrived from Chennai, India, and was carrying 1.644 kilograms of cocaine wrapped in polythene and hidden in a fake bottom of her suitcase.

Initial investigations revealed that the suspect had previously visited Sri Lanka three times. The arrest was based on intelligence received by the Police Narcotics Bureau.

Further investigations led to the arrest of a 50-year-old businessman from Malabe, who was waiting near a hotel in the Kollupitiya area of Colombo to receive the drugs.

Both suspects are to be produced before the Negombo Magistrate’s Court, where they will be detained for further questioning.
