LNP – Katukurunda motor races go ahead following Court order

The Court of Appeal yesterday issued an order permitting the Katukurunda Circuit Race organized by the Royal Automobile Club Asia to be held on March 29, and 30.

The order was made following a Petition filed by the Club challenging the decision to suspend the races by the Director General of spots .

The Director General of sports suspended the permit given to hold the meet on the March 27.Â

The Petitioners informed court that the entire suspension was illegal and without valid reason .

The Petitioners also told court that over 200 drivers had been ready to participate at the meet and the cancellation of the permit at the eleventh hour shows manipulation .

Having heard the submissions of Deputy Solicitor General Manohara Jayasinghe and Counsel Hafeel Farisz the court issued the interim order suspending the decision to cancel the tournament by the Director General .Â

Hafeel Farisz , Naveen Maharachchige instructed by Sanduni Rathanayake appeared for the Petitioners.
