Sri Lanka, currently facing dry conditions, is expected to last for the next two weeks with low rainfall expected afterwards, and there is a possibility of temperatures being higher than the previous year during March and April an official from the Department of Meteorology said.
Meteorologist Malith Fernando told the Daily Mirror that a chance of heat waves increasing in the upcoming months is also possible. “In the upcoming years, we can expect heat waves to be more frequent during this time of the year due to the rapid increase in global warming, which affects weather conditionsâ€.
The current dry condition is a seasonal condition that will last for a few weeks and during this time the average rainfall of the country is low, the meteorologist said.
He said that each year the temperature rises by a small amount from March to April due to the effect of climate change and this year is expected to rise as well, however, an official report is yet to be conducted on the weather patterns.
