The Railways Department is set to commence the Jaffna night mail train service between Colombo Fort Railway Station and Kankesanthurai Railway Station from January 31, Railways General Manager W.A.D.S. Gunasinghe said.
Addressing the media, he said the train service was launched following instructions from the Transport, Highways, Ports and Aviation Minister.Â
In addition to launching the service, the department aims to improve connectivity with Jaffna and provide additional services.
In response to the high demand for trains to the Ella on the upcountry railway line, the department has decided to offer extra train services.Â
As a first step, another train service will be assigned to Demodara from Kandy every weekend starting on February 1. This train will have a seating capacity of 350, with tickets priced at Rs. 7,000 to meet the demand.
Additionally, another train service will operate daily from Nanu Oya to Ella starting on February 10.
