Sri Lankaâs worst power cuts may come as early as March and April, as the country has failed to secure sufficient coal stocks required for thermal power generation, Nihal Weerarathne of the the Ceylon Electricity Board (CEB) Engineers Union said.
âOur hydro power generation capacity will not be sufficient as the rainfall was less this year. To provide thermal power however, Sri Lanka is struggling to secure the necessary stocks of coal. We now predict a dark March and April, months ahead of the power cuts we predicted for July,â Weerarathne said.

Most probably the country does not have sufficient funds to pay for coal. At the end of March last year, the country set a proud record by imposing 13 1/2 power cuts. This year this nation will improve this record. What a country to live in.
