LNP – No election within the coming months – Vajira Abeywardene

A series of elections will be held once a national policy framework to stabilize the nation is formulated, UNP MP Vajira Abeywardene said yesterday.

Mr. Abeywardene therefore ruled out any election within the coming months.

“This is not a time to hold elections. Those who call for an election are ones who want to destabilize the country. These forces who want to destabilize the nation will be publicly named so that they will be cornered shortly,” he said.

” It is essential to reduce the number of local government members to 4000 from the current level of 8000 and to abolish the preferential voting system in all tiers of governance. I won’t think any sensible person would oppose it,” he added.
