The Criminal Investigation Department (CID) has arrested a person for allegedly threatening Ayoma Rajapaksa, the wife of former President Gotabaya Rajapaksa, and demanding a ransom of Rs. 1 million.
The Digital Forensics Laboratory of the CID arrested the suspect following a complaint made by the former presidentâs wife.
Police said the suspect is identified as a 28-year-old, resident of Kolonnawa.
The investigation revealed that the suspect had telephoned Mrs. Ayoma Rajapaksaâs mobile phone 19 times on September 22nd and 8 times on September 23rd.
Police said the suspect demanded a ransom of Rs. 1 million from the former first lady threatening her that people would gather near their residence again if she failed to deliver the money.
The arrested suspect was released on bail after being produced before the Colombo Magistrate Court
