Industry Minister Wimal Weerawansa said he considered China a purely genuine friend of Sri Lanka because it never attached political strings when extending support.
Making his remarks at the function to mark the 70th Anniversary of Rubber -Rice Pact recently, Mr. Weerawansa who is the leader of the National Freedom Front, said China had never subjected Sri Lanka to any political condition in the extension of support to Sri Lanka.
“We are celebrating the 65th anniversary of diplomatic ties between the two countries and the 70th anniversary of the historic Rubber – Rice Pact.
He said China and Sri Lanka had umbilical cultural links.
Mr. Weerawansa said Sri Lanka would have faced untold international sanctions during the wartime if not for China. Also, he said the peace Sri Lanka enjoyed today would have only become a dream.
