At least 147 persons were arrested during special anti-crime operations carried out in the Western Province using roadblocks and mobile patrols yesterday.
Police said the operations were launched to prevent crimes especially during the festive season.
During the operations, the police examined a total of 15,685 persons travelling on 11,162 motorcycles, three wheelers, cars and other vehicles.
Police said 147 suspects were arrested on suspicion of possession of drugs, illicit liquor, illegally imported cigarettes, warrants and various other offenses during the operation.
