Six suspects have been arrested for digging for gold suspected to be buried during the war in Mannar, police said.
The Mannar Police conducted a joint operation with the officers of the Mannar Army Camp on a tip off that a group conducting excavations in search of gold buried during the war.
A car, a generator and property used for excavations were also taken into the custody.
The arrested suspects, aged between 26 and 60 and are residents of Hettimulla, Kutiyakumbura, Panadura, Boralanda and Halpe to be produced before the Mannar Magistrate’s Court today
