While saying that there is hesitancy among some individuals to get COVID vaccines due to needle phobia, State Minister Channa Jayasumana said today the vaccination programme for the people above 30 years of age would be expected to complete before the end of this week.
He told reporters that vaccinating 96% of the target population had been completed by now.
“We need the support of people who are 30 years and above to complete the vaccination by this Friday or Saturday. Those who haven’t still got themselves vaccinated due to various reasons including needle phobia, are invited to get the vaccine without further delay and/or hesitation,†he underscored.
Meanwhile, the State Minister said a notable number of individuals between 20 and 29 had shown reluctance in getting the vaccine due to the reports being shared on social media pertaining to misconceptions like COVID vaccines harm fertility or sexual function.
“When we inquired on this, it was found that there is no truth in these reports. Hence, we humbly request individuals in the mentioned age group to receive the vaccine without any fear,†he added.
