Rohitha becomes the youngest rugby educator in Sri Lanka

CH&FC Captain Rohitha Rajapaksa passed as the youngest Rugby Educator at the World Rugby Training and Education courses conducted by Sri Lanka Rugby from August 8 to 20, 2019.

Rajapaksa was among four individuals who received certification, along with Rajive Perera, Shamlie Nawaz and Duminda de Silva. With this achievement, Sri Lanka now has four rugby coach educators and one educator trainer, the first for the country being Viper Gunaratne.

Currently the Asian region has 32 rugby trainers and 229 rugby educators. The objective of the World Rugby Training and Education programme is to further help the development of good rugby coaches, which would encourage coaches and trainers to boost the disciplines of rugby and promote the sport throughout the country.

The former rugby Captain of S. Thomas’ College Mount Lavinia, Rajapaksa currently serves as the coach of Thurstan College first XV rugby team as well.

There were nine participants from Sri Lanka and three other participants from the Asian region who attended the Educator course. The nine Sri Lankan participants covered Coaching, Match Officiating, Medical and Strength and Conditioning disciplines and once they receive the World Rugby Educator Licenses they will be eligible to conduct World Rugby Level 1 and 2 courses in their respective disciplines.
