Galle District MP Piyasena Gamage yesterday took up responsibilities as State Minister of Youth, Women and Child Affairs at Sethsiripaya, Battaramulla. Among those present were President Maithripala Sirisena and ministers, Nimal Siripala de Silva, Mahinda Amaraweera, Duminda Dissanayake and S.B. Dissanayake. Gamage was appointed from the Galle District list in the wake of Geetha Kumarasinghe losing her seat in Nov 2017 over having dual Sri Lankan and Swiss citizenship. In terms of the 19th Amendment enacted in 2015, dual citizens aren’t eligible to contest either presidential or parliamentary polls.
