Three persons were killed while another was critically wounded after a three-wheeler veered off the road and toppled into a canal at Thundeniya in Gampola.
Police said that the driver of the three-wheeler had lost control of the vehicle causing the accident at Thuldeniya Junction on the Kahawatta byroad off the Gampola-Doluwa main road.
The driver of the three-wheeler and the three passengers were admitted to the Gampola Hospital with critical injuries, however the 3 passengers had succumbed to injuries.
The deceased are males aged 82, 74 and 72 from Warakapola, Medirigiriya and Gampola.
Gampola Police is conducting an investigation.
