Candidate eligibility to be assessed -Deshapriya

The Elections Commission says the eligibility of candidates fielded by political parties and independent groups for the Local Government Election will be assessed.

Chairman Mahinda Deshapriya speaking to NewsRadio said the attention of political party representatives will be directed to this move.

Deshapriya noted the matter will be taken up for discussion with election monitoring bodies as well.

A round of talks between the Elections Commission and secretaries of political parties will be held today.

Meanwhile the United People’s Freedom Alliance will today launch its propaganda rally for the Local Government Election in Anuradhapura.
