The Department for Registration of Persons says 150,000 Smart Identification Cards have been issued within the first two months since the commencement of the programme.
Speaking to NewsRadio Director General of the Department Viyani Gunathilake said the issuance was further expedited, due to the need to issue ID’s to students sitting the GCE Ordinary Level examination and in consideration of the upcoming Local Government Election.
The Director General further noted a programme to issue Smart ID’s to all citizens across the Island will be carried out in future.
