The Ministry of National Policies and Economic Affairs has informed the Kilinochchi District Secretariat to stop work on the restoration of an LTTE cemetery in Kilinochchi.
Kilinochchi MP S. Sridharan had allocated 4 million rupees out of his decentralized budget to renovate the LTTE cemetery in Kilinochchi.
Accordingly, Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe had also informed authorities to launch an investigation to check if the allocation of funds had been made through the decentralised budget.
Issuing a statement, the Ministry of National Policies and Economic Affairs said there is a set of criteria for the use of decentralized funds by a Member of Parliament.
The statement further said measures were taken to call for a report by the Kilinochchi District Secretariat.
The Ministry said instructions have been issued to suspend the work at the cemetery until it receives the report.
