Parents of medicos say SAITM issue not solved 100 percent

KANDY: Parents of the medical students of state universities and the South Asian Institute of Technology and Medicine (SAITM) said, at Getambe Rajopawanaramaya over the weekend, that the private medical college had not been solved 100 percent.

A delegation of the combined union of the parents of medical students told the Chief Incumbent of Getambe Rajopawanaramaya on Saturday (18) they expected the government to honour its pledges.

The parents told the prelate Ven. Keppetiyagoda Siriwimala that they were awaiting the arrangements for providing medical education at the Kotalawale Academy as assured by the government.

The government should take early steps to build the medical faculties at the universities of Sabaragamuwa, Wayamba etc., the Thera said.

The parents said they had urged the government to take timely action resolve the problem and prevent youth unrest, which caused trouble in the late 1980s.

Ven. Keppetiyagoda Siriwimala Nayaka Thera said the present government was not capable of taking decision as it was a joint administration.

The country was in a mess, the Thera said. No decisions were taken and, therefore, many problems remained unsolved.

The government came out with plans and promises but they were not implemented, the Nayake Thera said.

The parents called on the Most Ven. Wendaruwe Upali Anunayake Thera of Asgiriya and Most Ven. Napana Pemasiri Maha Nayake Thera of Ramaggna Nikayas as well.
