The bullet proof bus to transport prisoners designed by Kegalle Prison officers has passed the firing test successfully.
It has been revealed that the standard of the bullet proof bus is high, when the bus was subject to a quality check at the Katukurunda firing range by security forces.
Prison Department sources said the bus can be used to transport prisoners, specifically those in high profile cases or needing high security. Since of late, several incidents have been reported where buses transporting drug kingpins have been targeted.
Sources revealed that it may cost around Rs 30 million, if such a bus is to imported.However, only Rs one million has been invested in manufacturing this bullet proof bus locally.
