Law-abiding motorists to be rewarded

The Police will implement a programme from today to identify law-abiding motorists in Colombo.

The campaign to search for Colombo’s best drivers will take place between Colombo 1 to 15 from today as part of an island-wide effort conducted in stages.

A statement issued by the Police Headquarters said trained Policemen will be stationed at strategic locations while some will travel undercover in buses and unbranded vehicles.

The officers have been instructed to identify ‘stand-out’ actions of good drivers and pedestrians.

Accordingly, disciplined drivers will be given a sticker, offered a special voucher for a free medical check-up and cash incentives amounting to 10 million rupees.

The ‘Sri Lanka Best Driver’ campaign was launched in Kandy a few weeks ago as a special counter measure for increasing fines and as a goodwill gesture between the Police and the public.
