Sprint power house St. Benedictâs, Kotahena and Sir John Kotalawala M.V., Kurunegala dominated boysâ and girlsâ categories respectively as they won more than one event on day one of the Milo sponsored All Island Schools Relay Championship in Jaffna on Friday.
Sir John Kotalawala M.V, won the Under-16 girlsâ 4Ã100 metres in 51.2 seconds and the Under-18 4Ã100 metres in 51.5 seconds bring their aggregate to 20 points. They were leading the girlsâ points table by seven points. Their closest rivals were Janadhipathi Balika Vidyalaya, Nawala and Ave Maris Convent, Negombo who shared 13 points each to settle for the second and third places.
The Bens Under-18 team anchored by Sahan Rajapaksa returned the dayâs fastest timing as they stopped the clock at 42.6 seconds to win ahead of Royal College, Colombo and Rahula College, Matara.
The Bens were also the winners in the Under-16 boysâ 4Ã100 metres (44.6 seconds) relay.
Trinity, Kandy (Under-12 boysâ 4x100m â 55.5), St. Peterâs, Bambalapitiya (Under-14 boysâ 4x100m- 48.2 secs) and Maris Stella, Negombo (Under-20 boysâ 4x100m- 42.6 secs) were the winners of other boysâ events.
Isurangi Sithara, Yamani Dulanjali, Stefini Sylvester and Hansani Maheshika joined together to clock 51.9 seconds to win Ambagamuwa Central the gold in the Under-20 girlsâ 4Ã100 metres.
Ave Maris Convent, Negombo (Under-12 girlsâ 4x100m- 58.9 secs) and Janadhipathi Balika Vidyalaya (Under-14 girlsâ 4x100m â 54.2 secs) were the winners in the other two girls finals held on Friday.
