Cabraal says he’d be happy to appear before Bond Commission

Face Book posts explains sister’s connection with Perpetual.

Former Central Bank Governor Ajith Nivard Cabraal said yesterday that he would be delighted to appear before the Bond Commission and testify before it.

“I observed that certain Members of Parliament had suggested that I be summoned before the Bond Commission,” Cabraal said in a statement. “In that regard, I wish to state that I would be very happy to give evidence before the Bond Commission and respond to any questions the Commission may wish to clarify.”

He added that at the same time, he would welcome the opportunity to provide the Commission:

“(a) a professional assessment on the total loss that has been suffered by the government and the country as a result of the bond scam, and

(b) a scientific and studied insight into the actions and circumstances that enabled the scam to be carried out.”Â

In a Face Book posting, Cabraal said his sister, Siromi Wickramasinghe (Attorney-at-Law), had been appointed a Director of Perpetual Capital Holdings (Pvt) Ltd on December 23, 2013 and she had resigned from the company on March 9, 2015. During that period:

  1.  She had NOT held any shares in Perpetual Capital Holdings (Pvt) Ltd, or any of its subsidiaries.
  2. She HAD NOT attended any Board meetings of that company, and therefore HAD NOT received ANY fees or other remuneration.
  3. She had NOT been on the Board of the Primary Dealer Company, Perpetual Treasuries (Pvt) Ltd.
