The Railway Department has incurred huge losses through the utilization of a reserved Railway Department land to operate a car-park. Reportedly the proprietor of the car-park had acquired the warrant for the land through a political manipulation.
The chairman of the Ceylon Railway Employees Union S.P.Vitanage stated that the land area had been utilized as a car-park from September 2016.
It was reported that a monthly fee of Rs.30,000 was charged from the owner of the car-park. He further stated that the owner had been illegally utilizing the warrants received through political allegiances.
Vitanage also stated that several machinery items and paraphernalia utilized for the maintenance of railway tracks had been forcibly seized by the party in question.
It was further stated that the Union had notified several high ranking officials of the railway and were yet to receive a response.
