Airport Customs has intercepted a 33-year-old Indian national carrying foreign currency worth Rs. 3,522,578 at the Bandaranaike International Airport (BIA).
Customs reported that the foreign currency had been discovered in the form of USD 19 555, EUR 1,560, and HKD 10,000.
Customs reported that the detection had been made at the Departure terminal yesterday (31), whilst the suspect was attempting to leave for Banglore in India, aboard an aircraft bearing the number UL 171.
The passenger had been released after being issued a severe warning from Inquiring Officer, Kumudu Meegahage.
The smuggled currency has also been taken into the custody of Airport Customs.
