Mahinda Information at Lankanewspapers.com

An attotney-at-law Mahinda Rajapaksha came to the Parliment from Beliatta seat in 1970. Ages 24, He was then the youngest member in the house. His father had represented the same saet during 1947 to 1965

He got his primary education in Richmond College, Nalanda College and Thurstan Colllege.
Mahinda proved to be a remarkably successful Minister of Labour. He created controversy when he moved to introduce a labour charter and set up villages for fishermen. His labour reforms were resisted by employers who asked Chandrika Kumaratunga to remove him from the labour ministry. However, His labour charter was never implemented. He stood fearlessly against the autocratic regime of Ranasinghe Premadasa (1989-93), opposing totalitarianism and working to restore democracy.
He has become the fifth President of Sri Lanka.
The lawyer, human rights activist, former government minister and proud son of Sri Lanka previously served as the Honourable Prime Minister of the 13th Parliament of Sri Lanka.
