It is rather a matter of historical fact. Homosexuality was so PREVALENT IN THE SINHALA KINGDOM OF KOTTE.
The Sinhala King Bhuvanaka Bahu VII (1524-1551 AD) of Kotte was so gay and the Portuguese were frightened to live there. In a letter by the Portuguese of Ceylon to Joao de Casto dated Ceylon, 27th November 1547 AD the Governor of Goa speaks of the ` abominable crime` of the king of Ceylon. The sin of sodomy is so prevalent in this kingdom of Kotte that it almost frightens us to live here.

While the whole world from China to Chile bowed in rapt veneration for over a quarter of a century before this mighty giant, only Ceylon was vaguely unaware that such a person existed, let alone realizing he was a Ceylonese .
Coomaraswamy was without a peer as a scholar among Orientalists. It would be a great discovery if one could find another like him anywhere in the whole world, whose studies and publications cover a wide range and are at the same time as numerous in quantity as excellent in quality.`

Ganesan Nimalaruban: A damning murder, funeral and silence........

It is very likely readers of Sinhala mainstream print media have no clue who Ganesan Nimalaruban was, or exactly how he died. A simple Google news or general web search suffices to highlight how poor even English mainstream media coverage has been over the controversy surrounding his death.
Vikalpa was present at the funeral of Nimalaruban. They note that aside from a few provincial journalists (whose news reports don`t make it to the actual print editions on the best of days) there were no other seasoned journalists from any mainstream newspaper present. Recall that the courts didn`t want Nimalaruban`s body to be released to his parents, citing that,
