Syria vote: US appropriated UN power
Monday, 6 February 2012 - 1:44 PM SL Time
|
While officials in Washington tirelessly admonish Russia and China for blocking another resolution on Syria, Rick Rozoff of the Stop NATO group tells RT that the UN has been hijacked by the US and NATO.
On Saturday, the United Nations voted on a resolution on Syria, drafted by Morocco. In the end of the day, the document was vetoed by Moscow and Beijing. This move provoked a wave of anger from the West, with most harsh rhetoric heard from the US American Ambassador to the UN Susan Rice said Washington was disgusted by the veto, while Secretary of State Hillary Clinton called the vote a `travesty.`

Wednesday, 8 February 2012 - 4:47 AM SL Time
|
It appears that rookie NDP MP Rathika Sitsabaiesan doesn`t know what the population of Canada is.
Or at least she didn`t until last week.
Speaking at a Canadian Human Rights Voice (CHRV) conference on `Human Rights Abuses in Sri Lanka` last Wednesday, the Young MP from Ontario took to the podium to talk about her struggles as a young Tamil child in Sri Lanka.
She went on to talk about how Canadians can help fight for human rights, not just in Sri Lanka, but around the world.

Lankan mission bruises Lee
Sunday, 12 February 2012 - 6:57 AM SL Time
|
Matthew Russell Lee, an Inner City Press blogger covering the United Nations, is a longstanding critic of the Rajapaksa administration and continues to badger both the Sri Lanka mission and UN spokesman Martin Nesirky firing a volley of questions virtually every day -- relating mostly to allegations of war crimes and human rights violations by the government and the country`s armed forces.
The initial blast against Lee came from former Deputy Permanent Representative Bandula Jayasekera last May when he wrote a hard-hitting letter to Lee in which he said that `many believe that you are a disgrace to all respected bloggers. What you know best is to insult and discredit people and small third world countries.` (read: Sri Lanka)

That`s what happened to Princess Mary of Denmark when she busted the husband of the Finnish president - ironically called the First Gentleman - staring down her dress at a state dinner.
While she may have been tempted to land a left hook Princess Mary kept a smile fixed on her face as she adjusted the neckline of her dress and cast a modest hand over her chest.
The video of the dinner shows Pentti Arajarvi - the husband of president Tarja Halonen - looking at the princess`s cleavage during the dinner hosted by the Queen of Denmark on Wednesday.

Sunday, 19 February 2012 - 8:29 PM SL Time
|
Iran`s Oil Ministry announces it has cut oil exports to British and French firms in line with the decision to end crude exports to six European states.
The move comes as Iranian Oil Minister Rostam Qasemi had earlier hinted at the possibility of Iran`s halting oil exports to certain European countries.
Iranian Oil Ministry Spokesman Alireza Nikzad-Rahbar said Sunday that Iran has no problem in exporting and selling crude oil to its customers.
We have our own oil customers and replacements for these [British and French] companies have already been chosen and we will sell the crude oil to new customers instead of the British and French companies, Nikzad-Rahbar pointed out.

Google Bypassing User Privacy Settings in IE
By Chris Paoli 02/21/2012
According to Microsoft, Google circumnavigates Internet Explorer`s P3P Privacy Protection feature to track cookies of users.
Dean Hachamovitch, corporate vice president of Internet Explorer, wrote in a blog post that Microsoft started looking into the issue after a last week Wall Street Journal article discussed how Google got around tracking blockers in Apple`s Safari browser to keep tabs on Web users.
`When the IE team heard that Google had bypassed user privacy settings on Safari, we asked ourselves a simple question: is Google circumventing the privacy preferences of Internet Explorer users too? We`ve discovered the answer is yes: Google is employing similar methods to get around the default privacy protections in IE and track IE users with cookies,` said Hachamovitch.
