Fishermen fear backlash by SL Navy over attack on Natesan

RAMESWARAM: Fishermen`s associations on Tuesday came down heavily against the outfits that attacked Thirukumaran Natesan during his visit here on Tuesday to perform a pooja on Tuesday. They fear that due to the attack, fishermen venturing into the sea for their livelihood will be at the receiving end at the hands of the Sri Lankan Navy.
Thirteen mechanised boats associations and 10 country boat associations have expressed their disapproval for such an act stating that it has hurt the sovereignty of the country.

SL NAVY ARRESTS 43 INDIAN FISHERMEN

The Sri Lanka Navy seized six Indian fishing boats and arrested 43 fishermen who were illegally fishing just North of Palmudai last night (January 24), Navy Spokesman Commander Kosala Warnakulasuriya stated.
The arrested fishermen and the boats were taken to the Trincomalee harbour while the Spokesman stated that they will be handed over to the Police after initial investigations are conducted.
