UN Rights Chief warns Sri Lanka-AppU very near..
Friday, 1 July 2011 - 2:59 PM SL Time

The UN`s human rights chief Thursday warned Sri Lanka not to take too long in probing war crimes allegations, saying failure to carry out a credible inquiry could lead to international action.

`There is now a high level of expectations expressed by member states that Sri Lanka should seriously inquire into these allegations` of prisoner executions and assaults, said Navi Pillay, UN High Commissioner for Human Rights.

`But this should not be an open-ended process,` she stressed, noting that a previous Sri Lankan internal inquiry `failed to complete its task, never published its report and never led to a single prosecution.`

Minister may be clever at braying but he should not therefore think listeners are donkeys
Sunday, 3 July 2011 - 3:24 AM SL Time

Petroleum resources Minister Susil Premachandra gave a series of `amazingly wonderful` reasons when trying to explain on the inferior quality petrol in the market when he had a media discussion to announce the Cabinet decisions yesterday..

His explanation was , as the quantity of oil supplied to the market by the Indian Oil Co. (IOC) dropped recently , the demand for oil shot up . Meanwhile as the Corp was shut down for 8 days for refurbishment , to meet additional requirements, 20,000 tons fuel had to be obtained from out, he noted.. When the 20,000 tons fuel so obtained was being distributed , the fuel levels at the filling stations had dropped to the very bottom due to the poson Poya holidays, he revealed. Hence the residue at the bottom had got mixed with the oil supplied, he explained . The Minister also went on to elaborate that due to the rains , the rain water may have mixed with the oil when it leaked into the fuel tanks at the filling stations . The Minister therefore argued that the 20000 tons oil is not of inferior quality because of the reasons cited by him .

Chinese Colonialism
Sunday, 3 July 2011 - 11:44 AM SL Time

Are you in the government? Are you in the Rajapaksa family? If not, then the Chinese government is probably no great friend to you.
The Chinese government`s relationship is state to state, not person to person. It is important to remember this, and doubly important to remember that you, unlike Louis XIV or Mahinda VI, are not the state.
The Chinese are building ports, infrastructure and public spaces. Remember who did that last time? It was the British. The British colonial regime built roads, railways, infrastructure and the artificial port of Colombo. They imported docile labourers from India and paid off Sri Lankan elites to serve the regime. They also introduced legislation to allow for the outright sale of land.

Serious cultural behavioral issues prevalent in Sri Lanka and not a conspiracy against the country
Monday, 4 July 2011 - 3:23 AM SL Time

Traitors in our Midst

The Sri Lankan security forces are without doubt, one of the best fighting forces in the World. At the height of the conflict, an officer from a British security agency informed this writer, that the Sri Lankan security forces are far more efficient in fighting suicide terrorism, than their British or American colleagues.

This was before Rajapakse came into power.

But today, this proud and effective terrorist fighting machine has been brought into disrepute and shamed as war criminals that have engaged in the most despicable acts of inhumanity.

Rajapakse & Co s., Creative Version of Killing Fields
Tuesday, 5 July 2011 - 9:24 AM SL Time

I have followed the Government version of the Channel 4 `killing fields` revelations. I have some observations to make and these are:

1. When the Channel 4 released this hard evidence, the Sri Lankan government denied this as a fake and it is a bogus drama and it was shot outside Sri Lanka. Now they have turned the story and are claiming the recording is true but killers were the LTTE. From its denial position to acceptance of C4 presentation the government position has become true. What has happened to the government`s forensic experts reports? Is the Government now saying its experts were wrong and they have concocted and they are un-professionals?

The Minister who was obviously rattled had said, Sangakkara ought to have obtained permission before he made such a speech and he could have confined his remarks only to the sphere of cricket.
