Stop Boasting and seek a political Solution - DM Editorial
Wednesday, 1 June 2011 - 1:15 PM SL Time

No one, will grudge the Rajapaksa regime, President Mahinda Rajapaksa or his brother and Defence Secretary Gotabaya Rajapaksa their moments of glory or the bouquets they deserve for defeating the LTTE, claimed to have been the most ruthless terror outfit, and eradicating its brand of terrorism from Sri Lanka`s soil and most importantly bringing to an end the 30-year-old war.

We can now move about in peace without suspecting any unattended parcel or package to be a terrorist bomb or a person acting suspiciously of being a cyanide-wearing suicide bomber.

The selfish attitude and haplessness of the DMK regime had caused the death of thousands of Lankan Tamils, Jayalalithaa
Friday, 10 June 2011 - 1:11 AM SL Time

CHENNAI: Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa on Wednesday charged that her predecessor M Karunanidhi had failed to protect the Lankan Tamils during the war in Sri Lanka. Instead of taking concrete steps to save the Tamils, Karunanidhi had enacted `dramas`, she said.

Participating in the discussion on the resolution moved by her urging the Centre to impose economic sanctions against Sri Lanka until the country accorded equal rights to Tamils and resettled those internally displaced to their native places, the CM said attacks by the Lankan Army on Tamils intensified in the fag end of 2008 and in 2009 when Mahinda Rajapakse was President of Sri Lanka and the UPA government at the Centre in India.

The World is Shocked about the State Terrorism in Sri Lanka - When Tamils complained no could understand it - Now it is out in the open how the Racist terrorist army behaves against Tamil Civilians - There cannot be any Excuse
Wednesday, 15 June 2011 - 10:30 PM SL Time

The footage screened by Channel 4 last night ranks among the most horrific yet shown on British television. Naked prisoners shot in the head the dead bodies of women who had been raped, dumped on a truck the immediate aftermath of a shell landing on a hospital images caught on mobile phones of the atrocities committed by government soldiers in the final months of Sri Lanka`s brutal civil war. The story of what happened two years ago when government forces corralled hundreds of thousands of Tamils in horrific conditions into an ever-shrinking space, as they closed in the defeated Tigers, is well known. A UN panel last month found credible allegations of war crimes committed both by the Sri Lankan government and the LTTE. But the pictures of the shootings are new and Channel 4 has done what human rights organisations should have been doing in compiling and sifting through it.

Friday, 17 June 2011 - 5:22 AM SL Time

In what is seen as retaliation for Channel 4 broadcast Tuesday, the genocidal SL Army occupying Jaffna brutally attacked TNA parliamentarians, journalists and public in Jaffna on Thursday, causing injuries to an unspecified number of people, according to initial reports. The blatant attack by SL Army in uniform took place when the TNA politicians held a meeting at A`laveddi in Jaffna, inaugurating their political campaign for the forthcoming civic elections. Tension prevailed as SL Army was deployed in the area and the public that came for the meeting sought refuge in the nearby houses. British diplomats satisfied with Army`s role in Jaffna, said a website of the occupying Army on Tuesday, after the visit of the Deputy High Commissioner of UK, announcing `reintegration` of ex-LTTE combatants in detention through the occupying Army.

BEIJING (AP) China says Sudanese President Omar al-Bashir will visit the country in a little over a week, despite the fact he`s wanted by an international court on war crimes charges.

Foreign Ministry spokesman Hong Lei said Thursday that al-Bashir is making the June 27-30 visit at the invitation of Chinese President Hu Jintao. Hong said al-Bashir will meet with Hu and other Chinese leaders and that talks would seek to promote peace in Sudan.

The International Criminal Court has issued arrest warrants for al-Bashir for allegedly orchestrating atrocities in the African nation`s Darfur region. However, China is not a member of the ICC and in 2008 expressed concerns that the court`s indictment of al-Bashir could cause further instability in the region.

This background information is essential for any non-Tamil to understand how the Sri Lankan army can be so brutal against its own civilians. In Sri Lanka, Tamils are not treated on par with the Sinhalese.

Lankan Security Forces have Nothing to Hide............... ask Sumane
Monday, 27 June 2011 - 1:25 PM SL Time

Both print and electronic media in Sri Lanka and abroad have reported that the Tamil National Alliance (TNA) party meeting held in Jaffna was attacked by an armed group in uniforms on Thursday 16 June. It was also reported that a number of TNA parliamentarians were present at the meeting when the attack took place. As Dr. VickramabahuKarunarathna informed us, `this attack was made by a fully armed contingent` and `over forty participated`. If his information is true, there is no doubt `it is a planned attack`. It is also interesting to note that this dastardly act was executed while the government was having talks with the TNA over the Tamil national question and just after high-powered Indian delegation left the island following talks with the President over, inter alia, the issue of devolution of power. Although Secretary of Defence, Jaffna Army Commander and the police have promised time and again that `the matter will be investigated and the miscreants severely punished` irrespective of their political affiliations or positions, people are yet to be informed of the outcome of the promised investigation. When we reflect on similar attacks on media personnel, the Opposition and trade unionists in the south during the last two years, one can easily guess that such investigations would not reveal anything and the perpetrators would be allowed to go scot free. A couple of months ago, the deteriorating law and order situation in the North, was raised in Parliament. It was also reported that a JVP meeting in Jaffna had also been disrupted by armed thugs in the recent past. It seems that no concrete action has been taken to correct the situation.

Iran`s minister of cultural and Islamic guidance has attacked an upcoming BBC2 documentary series on the life of the founder of Islam, the prophet Muhammad, saying the `enemy` was attempting to `ruin Muslims` sanctity`.

The three-part series, The Life of Muhammad, presented by Rageh Omaar, a Somali-born British Middle East correspondent for Al Jazeera English, is scheduled to be broadcast on BBC2 in mid-July and has been drawing increasing criticism from senior figures in Iran.

The documentary makers say it seeks to `retrace the actual footsteps of the prophet` from his birthplace in the Saudi Arabian city of Mecca, his struggles with his prophetic role and divine revelations, his migration to Medina and establishment of the first Islamic constitution before his final return to Mecca following armed conflicts.

A Well Deserving Initiative by Members of All the CommunityIncluding our LNPparticipating as a Walker to raise money for the Paediatric Cancer Ward in the Jaffna Hospital - I hope the Dirty Politicians dont get any credit for this. Please visit the Link .
Thursday, 30 June 2011 - 2:05 PM SL Time

A 27 day journey, spanning over 670 km in the hopes of raising $2 million dollars towards building a paediatric cancer ward in the Jaffna General Hospital. That is Trail. Daunting as it may seem the team behind Trail have pledged their support and their commitment to completing this journey towards their cause.

Trail is a project initiated by the Colours of Courage Trust, a non-profit organization that has since its inception in 2008 has dedicated its resources towards the growing needs of infrastructure to treat cancer in Sri Lanka. At present, there is only one cancer hospital in Maharagama to support the needs of a population which is fast approaching the 20 million mark, thus making the need for another facility outside of Colombo a palpable one. Patients often travel long distances from all over Sri Lanka to receive the treatment they need to survive. The Colours of Courage Trust previously engaged in projects centered around the National Cancer Institute in Maharagama and is currently in the process of constructing a new Medical Intensive Care Unit in that facility.
