The state has a right under international law to ensure its national security and to defend itself against armed attacks . Those ends do not however justify all means to achieve them all actions for those legitimate purposes must comply with the requirements of international law The Darusman Report

The Libyan ambassador to the UK has been expelled following attacks on British embassy premises in Tripoli.
Foreign missions in Libya`s capital have been targeted by crowds angry at reports that a Nato air strike had killed a son of Col Muammar Gaddafi.
A BBC team there said the UK embassy building had been completely burnt out.
The foreign secretary said the Gaddafi regime had failed in its duty to protect it and that Omar Jelban had been given 24 hours to leave the UK.
Meanwhile, the United Nations announced that it was withdrawing all its international staff from Tripoli after some of its facilities in the city were also attacked by angry crowds.

Described by US officials as `extraordinarily unique` the compound housing the terrorist leader was more like a fortress than a residential dwelling.
Surrounded by 18ft walls topped by barbed wire, the only access was through two security gates.
Built around five years ago at an estimated cost of 600,000, its accommodation block is three storey`s tall.
Such is the emphasis on privacy that even the third-floor terrace is shielded by a seven-foot wall.
Inside officials said the house was sectioned up and may have even been designed to hide a secret home within a home.

Inconcievable that Osama did not have a support system in Pakistan - Obama is determined to get to the Bottom of this - Pakis have no shame - They are a big Terror State in the world - From Madarases to Osama grow there safely

Washington: The US today said it was `inconceivable` that Osama bin Laden had no support system inside Pakistan. The Obama adminstration is investigating how the Al Qaeda chief was able to hold on in the country for so long.
While refusing to speculate on what kind of support Osama might have had in Pakistan, counter terrorism chief John Brennan did not rule out the possibility of the terrorist having official backing. `It is inconceivable that bin Laden did not have support system in the country that allowed him to remain there for extended period of time,` Brennan told reporters at a news conference at the White House.

Jayaratne Ayya who is fighting against the Bankeeee Report Now asks DID US VIOLATE INTERNATIONAL LAW - Very Good question Jayaratne Ayye - You need to talk to Robert Blake who is with you - I am sure he will give you the answer

Prime Minister D.M Jayaratne yesterday questioned into whether the killing of Osama Bin Laden by US forces in Pakistan was a violation of International laws.
How can another country enter another sovereign state to kill a person on an order? We never ordered to kill Prabhakaran. He died when the war was still going. That`s the difference between these two deaths. The body of Bin Laden is still in their custody , Prime Minister D.M Jayaratne gave these comments during an event in Pettah last evening.

BITTER FRUITS OF PROCRASTINATION
Tuesday, 3 May 2011 - 3:00 PM SL Time

The Darusman Report has caused much embarrassment to us and made our mothers_day.jsp' class=black>motherland a target of international bickering. The legitimacy, the propriety, and the logic of the report are under scrupulous scrutiny. But I do not propose to enter that arena here. My purpose is to draw attention to the fact that things might not have come to the present catharsis if diligent attention was paid to the real problems of the Tamils soon after the end of the war.

Power devolution to minorities in Lanka
Namini Wijedasa
The devolution of power to the minorities is not something Sri Lankan President Mahinda Rajapaksa has stressed himself over since defeating the Tamil Tigers in battle. With the rebels gone and the state firmly in control of all territory, the notion of sharing political authority has become, well, pass .
It could have been different. The elimination of the Tigers gave President Rajapaksa a fine opportunity to engage with those representatives of the Tamil community that favored a peaceful settlement to decades of ethnic friction. Although the war was won by force, there was still stuff to talk about.

And the data further demonstrates to the U.S. that top al-Qaeda commanders and other key insurgents are scattered throughout Pakistan, not just in the rugged border areas, and are being supported and given sanctuary by Pakistanis, a senior defense official said.

Fire in Babylon - A Film about West Indian Cricket that dominated the 70s - Bob Marleys Song Get Up Stand Up Stand Up For Your Rights was an inspirational to Viv Richards

The West Indies team which came to prominence under the tutelage of Clive Lloyd in the mid-1970s went on to dominate cricket for close to two decades.
Relying on a battery of fast bowlers and the brilliance of batsmen such as Vivian Richards and Gordon Greenidge, their rise to prominence is a compelling story.
Galvanised by the inspirational leadership of Lloyd and, later, Richards, their mastery over opponents was unprecedented in sporting history, evidenced by the fact the West Indies did not lose a single Test series for 15 years between 1980 and 1995.

Did Pakistani intelligence help plan and finance Mumbai attacks?
Tuesday, 17 May 2011 - 9:54 AM SL Time
|
Two and a half years after armed militants stormed ashore in Mumbai and launched an assault that left more than 160 people dead, court proceedings have begun in the US which could expose disturbing allegations that elements within Pakistan`s notorious intelligence agency helped plot and finance the operation.
Amid tight security at the Dirksen federal courthouse in Chicago, the jury selection process has started in the trial of the Chicago-based businessman Tahawwur Rana, who is accused of helping an old school friend scout targets in India for the Pakistani militants. Among the targets identified by David Coleman Headley were the locations in Mumbai that the 10 Lashkar-e-Taiba militants laid siege to for up to three days.

Thousands of Tamils will hold a vigil in Trafalgar Square on Wednesday evening to mark the second anniversary of the end of the civil war in Sri Lanka and to call for an independent international investigation into allegations of war crimes and human rights abuses.
As many as 40,000 non-combatants died in spring 2009 as the Sri Lankan government moved to crush Tamil Tiger separatists and end the island`s 26-year conflict.
Evidence of atrocities on both sides has emerged. Government soldiers have been accused of shelling hospitals, targeting civilians and attacking aid workers, while rebels are said to have used civilians as shields and shot those attempting to flee the fighting.

Tea Plantation Worker is Paid only a meagre Rs 286 per day - What a Disgrace treatment of people who contribute so much? No point celebrating Budha Jayanthi or vesak showing off when there are injustices committed against hard working genuine workers?
Thursday, 19 May 2011 - 9:56 AM SL Time
|
Plantation workers are demanding daily wages be increased to Rs.500/= from the current rate of Rs.285/= per dayto meet the minimum requirements of existing cost of living in the country.
Any changes of the wage structure of the plantation workers will be decided at the Collective Agreement (CA) which has been the practice from 1996. The members of the CA are the representatives of Trade Unions of the plantation workers and that of from the Employers Federation.
Recently they have met and rescheduled the meeting to be held towards the end of April 2011. Though, there is a necessity of increasing the daily wages, the Employers Federation has made the announcement that the workers are receiving between Rs.10,000 to Rs.12,000 per month and the level of poverty has come down upto the national average of 9 per cent. This indirectly tells that there is no need for wage increase for the plantation workers.

Safiya Gaddafi and her daughter Aisha crossed into Tunisia `a few days ago` with a Libyan delegation, according to Tunisian security sources.
The pair are currently at a refugee centre on the island of Djerba. The departure, if confirmed, would be a major blow to Col Gaddafi`s embattled regime, already rocked by the apparent defection of the key oil minister, Shukri Ghanem, on Tuesday.

Flames and thick smoke poured from the vessel, which was moored between and within feet of two large civilian oil tankers.
Only exceptionally precise targeting prevented a much wider conflagration which could have caused massive damage to the port and the city.
The smoke from the blaze billowed across parts of the city centre, including Green Square where only last night regime supporters staged a pro-Gaddafi demonstration.
Government spokesmen claimed the vessel was a `private yacht,` but close-up pictures showed the gun and turrets of a small frigate. Warships in several other Libyan ports were also targeted.

A sea change in the President`s initial indifference to the `special relationship` augurs well for his state visit to London.
President Barack Obama and his wife Michelle will arrive in London on Tuesday for a state visit which both Britain and America hope will be an improvement on the last one.
In 2003, President George W Bush was greeted by tens of thousands of protesters and a sour, violent mood brought on by the wars in Afghanistan and Iraq.
Security concerns forced him to scuttle from Buckingham Palace to Downing Street to Tony Blair`s Sedgefield constituency while barely seeing the country he had come to visit.

Jayalalitha to declare Rajapakse as War Criminal in the Parliament
Friday, 27 May 2011 - 5:32 AM SL Time

(May 26, Colombo, Sri Lanka Guardian) Other than a passing reference by visiting Sri Lankan Foreign Minister Prof.G.L. Peiris
last week in Delhi - confirming he has sent a note of congratulations to the Tamilnadu Chief Minister Smt. J. Jayalalitha - the Rajapakse government seems to be taking the new Tamilnadu order for granted. Prof. Peiris did quote, presumably for the record, GoSL is keen to build bridges of friendship with the new CM. He was obviously speaking for his boss. It is learnt sources close to the Rajapakse brothers are approached by influential sections of academics in Chennai, working through friends in Colombo close to the ruling circles, offering to help patch matters up. The Chennai sources include current advisors to the Prime Minister in Delhi , former key officials of the security apparatus in India , influential officials who played a key role during the 1987-89 IPKF advent n Sri Lanka . Influential members of the media, outside those generally identified with Colombo, are also in this effort to bring both sides together.

For Sri Lanka, last week was eventful for one reason or the other. The week began with religious observances and celebrations for Vesak, with the added significance of it being the 2,600th year of the Lord Buddha`s enlightenment.
It is ironic that though the Lord Buddha is revered as the greatest son of India, Sri Lanka appears to be again having serious problems with its giant neighbour and the Southern State of Tamil Nadu. In a much delayed effort at building bridges of accommodation and understanding, External Affairs Minister G.L. Peiris last week wrote to Tamil Nadu`s new Chief Minister Jayalalithaa Jeyaram congratulating her on her election victory and on her sbeing sworn-in as Chief Minister of the most populous Tamil State. The message came in the wake of Ms. Jeyaram calling for a an international probe on accountability issues during the final stages of the war in Sri Lanka. Speaking on her own channel, Jaya TV, Ms. Jeyaram said it was India`s responsibility to ensure a dignified and honourable existence for the Tamils in Sri Lanka.
