The TNA says that it is prepared to discuss the UN Expert Panel`s report with China and Russia. If the need arises we are prepared to explain the reality behind the UN report to China and Russia, TNA General Secretary Mavai Senathirajah told Ada Derana.

The death of Osama bin Laden produced grim satisfaction in Afghanistan, where the al-Qaeda leader`s presence helped make it a pariah state during the Taliban regime and triggered the Western attack that has stretched into a decade-long war waged mainly by foreign troops.
For years, even as the NATO-led forces on the ground surged to nearly 150,000 troops to fight anti-government insurgents, Afghans across the political spectrum have argued that Pakistan was hosting and arming the Taliban as well as other terrorist groups.

Prabhakaran`s successor, T. S. Pathmanathan or simply `KP` as he is known, says the controversial `Darusman Report` will not help the ongoing national reconciliation process. Instead, it can cause irreparable damage to ambitious reconciliation efforts, he asserts.
Pathmanathan asserts the report commissioned by UNSG Ban Ki-moon will only strengthen the hands of those hell-bent on undermining the post-war recovery process. The UNSG`s move received the backing of the US, UK, EU comprising 27 countries and South Africa in spite of Sri Lanka strongly disputing the `Darusman Report.`

`In this case, what [the man] has told officers and what he testified to before me about what happened to him in Sri Lanka is the only credible and trustworthy evidence before me,` she concluded in her ruling Thursday.

Among them the daughter of the film star, Ravindra Randeniya has been appointed to Washington and the daughter of the Minister Keheliya Rambukwella has been appointed to New York. It was also noted that their names were in the list of appointees recommended to appoint to the permanent cadres of the Foreign Service though cabinet without any competitive examination just before the local government elections. This was the list that was said to have rejected by the President during the election. According to an Additional Secretary of the Ministry once they were appointed to the Mission, they would be recruited to the permanent cadre of the Foreign Service secretly. It was also noted an Additional Secretary of a Ministry, Mrs. Mallika Dissanayake is lucky enough to get a posting third time. She was first appointed as the First Secretary to the Sri Lanka Embassy in Japan as the First Secretary. There was an allegation against her for taking her own brother as domestic servant at the expenses of the government of Sri Lanka and later worked at a Sri Lankan restaurant owned by Mr. Hubert Jayakody, whose son got married to the daughter of later President Premadasa. It was the Congress`s worst ever performance since Independence in the state. The Congress won just five seats out of the 63 it had bargained hard for from the DMK even if the DMK`s tally was a dismal 23, not even qualifying it to play the role of Opposition leader. Congress general secretary Mr Rahul Gandhi himself bit the dust with all his nominees at the state election defeated. Mr Gandhi had travelled to Puducherry and Tamil Nadu to campaign exclusively for his Youth Congress candidates alone. Not one survived.

It had been widely expected that Moreno-Ocampo would seek an arrest warrant for Libyan leader Gaddafi, but in addition to a warrant for his son Saif, the prosecutor said he would also seek the arrest of Libya`s head of espionage, Abdullah al-Senussi.

Such a statement made to court should lead to inquiry. However, due to the absence of respect for the principles of rule of law in Sri Lanka now, even a statement made to the court on such an important issue is not likely to lead to any inquiry. The only and predictable outcome is that the person making such a revelation may get into serious trouble.

Sri Lanka`s announcement of the appointment of yet another commission to investigate human rights abuses should come as no surprise. Following the release of report by the UN expert panel, calls for an international, independent inquiry into the final stages of the conflict are gaining momentum on a global level.
This new commission, like its predecessors, including the infamously impotent Lessons Learnt and Reconciliation Commission (LLRC) is a farce. Its announcement is a insolent retort at the UN report and all those advocating accountability, as well as another of Sri Lanka`s habitual ploys to buy time for international attention to fade.

Former Army Commander Sarath Fonseka told the High Court Trial-at-Bar that it was ironical that he had to spend time in jail when Karuna Amman, a former military wing leader of the Tiger guerrillas, who was responsible for the killings of civilians, was enjoying privileges as a minister without facing any charges.
Mr. Fonseka was making his dock statement in the `White Flag` case this week for the fourth consecutive day.
Mr. Fonseka is accused with having stated in an interview with The Sunday Leader newspaper that the Defence Secretary had ordered not to spare any of the LTTE cadres surrendering even if they were coming with white flags during the last stages of the military assault on the guerrillas in May, 2009.

Project Noolaham has been ongoing since the year 2005 and is run by respectable and responsible Tamil intellectuals. The main purpose of the Noolaham Foundation, a registered charity, is to collect rare books and manuscripts from across the globe, and digitize and make them freely available to all researchers.
In the past year, we added more than 3000 documents to our e-library. We operate on a meager annual budget of about Rs. 1.65 million collected from contributions, working with mainly volunteers consisting of young persons who initially conceived the idea.

To die for one`s country, or for an equally noble cause, is indeed praiseworthy. Throughout history, men and women have died fighting heroically defending their mothers_day.jsp' class=black>motherland. Such gallant men and women are remembered as heroes.
The closest that we have seen to dying in action, albeit remote is `fasting unto death` resulting in actual death. Such cases have been rare in the world and the few who had died are remembered. In our own country many `cardboard heroes` have started `death fasts` with much fanfare but given them up sipping orange juice offered by a VIP in the full gaze of television cameras. Photographers have captured some of these `fasting heroes` lying down on mattresses under protective canopies with a fan close by and even biscuits and fizzy drinks within their reach!
