Tuesday, 1 March 2011 - 2:27 PM SL Time

The following article was published in the Island Cricket on 23.06.09. The points are still valid.
-----------------------------------------------

Way back in 1982 when Sri Lanka attained test status we hailed the likes of Hon. Gamini Dissanayake for introducing Sri Lanka to the world stage and we still hail this great man as this was no mean feat. But approximately 27 years down the line I wonder if politics has really ruined cricket?

Cricket stats - some records will remain forever
Sunday, 13 March 2011 - 3:40 PM SL Time

Cricket besides being a wonderful team sport is also one of innumerable records and statistics. Virtually in every series played now a days there are new batting, bowling and fielding records created and broken a galore. For a batsmen the run aggregate, the batting average and the highest individual score are records which are cherished fondly. although these statistics might not be a true reflection of a batsmen`s true class but they are used as a yardstick while comparing a batsmen with his fellow contemporaries and his peers from the earlier generations. Similarly a bowling average and the sheer volume of wickets taken by a particular bowler might not do justice with his talent but they do represent a fair analysis of his overall standing in the game. it is often said that some records will be broken sooner and others later but there have been a set of staggering records both in batting and bowling department which might be too far fetched for the future generations of players to emulate and eventually better.
