Was Violinist from the Buddhist Literature - GUTHTHILA Born in Italy as Nicolo Paganini ????????????
Tuesday, 1 March 2011 - 10:58 PM SL Time
|
Nicolo Paganini, Italian virtuoso on the violin, was born at Genoa on the 18th of February 1784. His father Antonio, a clever amateur, who was in the shipping business, taught him the violin at a very early age, and he had further lessons from the maestro di cappella of the Cathedral of San Lorenzo. He first appeared in public at Genoa in 1793, with triumphant success. In 1795 he visited Parma for the purpose of taking lessons from Alessandro Rolla, who, however, said that he had nothing to teach him. On returning home, he studied more diligently than ever, practicing single passages for ten hours at a time, and publishing compositions so difficult that he alone could play them. His first professional tour, through the cities of Lombardy, was made with his father in 1797. For some years he led a chequered career he gambled at cards, and had to pawn his violin and between 1801 and 1804 he lived in retirement, in Tuscany, with a noble lady who was in love with him. In 1805 however he started on a tour through Europe, astonishing the world with his matchless performances, and especially with his unprecedented playing on the fourth string alone. The princess of Lucca and Piombo, Napoleon`s sister, made him her musical director, and he became a prominent figure at the court where his caprices and audacities were a byword. He abandoned this in 1813, and visited Bologna, Milan, and other cities, gaining further fame by his extraordinary virtuosity. In Venice, in 1815, he began a liaison with Antonia Bianchi, a dancer, which lasted till 1828 and by her he had a son Achillino, born in 1826. Meanwhile the world rang with his praises. In 1827 the pope honored him with the Order of the Golden Spur and, in the following year, he extended his travels to Germany, beginning with Vienna, where he created a profound sensation. He first appeared in Paris in 1831 and on the 3rd of June in that year he played in London at the King`s Theatre. His visit to England was preluded by the most romantic stories. He was described as a political victim who had been immured for twenty years in a dungeon, where he played all day long upon an old broken violin with one string, and thus gained his wonderful mechanical dexterity. The result of this and other foolish reports was that he could not walk the streets without being mobbed. He charged what for that time were enormous fees and his net profits in England alone, during his six years of absence from his own country, amounted to some 17,000. In 1832 he returned to Italy, and bought a villa near Parma. In 1833 he spent the winter in Paris, and in 1834 Hector Berlioz composed for him his beautiful symphony, Harold en Italie. He was than at the zenith of his fame but his health, long since ruined by excessive study, declined rapidly. In 1838 he suffered serious losses in Paris through the failure of the `Casino Paganini`, a gambling house which was refused a license. The disasters of this year increased his malady -- laryngeal phthisis -- and, after much suffering, he died at Nice on the 17th of May 1840. His will left a fortune of 80,000 to his son Achillino and he bequeathed one of his violins, a fine Joseph Guarnerius, given him in early life by a kind French merchant, to the municipality of Genoa, who preserve it as one of their treasures. Paganini`s style was impressive and passionate to the last degree. His cantabile passages moved his audience to tears, while his tours de force were so astonishing that a Viennese amateur publicly declared that he had seen the devil assisting him. His name stands in history as that of the most extraordinary executant ever known on the violin and in spite of greater artists or no less remarkable later virtuosi, this reputation will remain with Paganini as the inaugurator of an epoch. He was the first to show what could be done by brilliance of technique, and his compositions were directed to that end. He was an undeniable genius, and it may be added that he behaved and looked like one, with his tall, emaciated figure and long black hair.

Is Tripoli being set up for a civil war to justify U.S. and NATO military intervention in oil-rich Libya? Are the talks about sanctions a prelude to an Iraq-like intervention?Something is Rotten in the so-called Jamahiriya of Libya

Something is Rotten in the so-called Jamahiriya of Libya
There is no question that Colonel Muammar Al-Gaddafi (Al-Qaddafi) is a dictator. He has been the dictator and so-called qaid of Libya for about 42 years. Yet, it appears that tensions are being ratcheted up and the flames of revolt are being fanned inside Libya. This includes earlier statements by the British Foreign Secretary William Hague that Colonel Qaddafi had fled Libya to Venezuela. [1] This statement served to electrify the revolt against Qaddafi and his regime in Libya.

Easy Come, Easy Go - Grenade - By Bruno Mars - R `n` B

Easy come, easy go
That`s just how you live, oh
Take, take, take it all,
But you never give
Should of known you was trouble from the first kiss,
Why were they open?
Gave you all I had
And you tossed it in the trash
You tossed it in the trash, you did
To give me all your love is all I ever asked,
Cause what you don`t understand is
I`d catch a grenade for ya (yeah, yeah, yeah)
Throw my hand on a blade for ya (yeah, yeah, yeah)
I`d jump in front of a train for ya (yeah, yeah , yeah)

Even IF You Maintain Wild Type Seed Stocks, Why Genetically Modified Seeds are Bad - What happens to the Creator God Concept ??

But, my son, be warned: there is no end of opinions ready to be expressed. Studying them can go on forever, and become very exhausting. (Ecclesiastes 12: 12)
My spoken talk focuses on a description of the Government`s Farm Scale Evaluations (FSE) of genetically-modified herbicide-tolerant (GMHT) crops, begun in 1999 and now about halfway through their planned duration. In this much longer written version I shall cover the FSE in the second section. In the third section I try to shed some light on the way that the scientific world works and how this interacts with the intense public debate on GM issues. In the next section I address briefly a previous paper in this Christ & the Cosmos series from the 1999 Oxford Conference by Dr Glyn Jones. In the fifth section I try to discuss some of the theological, ethical and socio-economic aspects, always bearing in mind the overarching question of whether the creation of GM crops is, or is not in line with God`s will. Finally, in section six, I look to the future. Throughout, I base my arguments on published evidence, and hope that those coming to the subject fresh will find the reference list a useful source of further information. However, although the material from section three onwards contains my personal views on wider aspects concerning GM crops. I should stress that these personal opinions do not represent the views of my employing institute or the Research Council that funds it and in a few cases may depart significantly. Biblical references are usually from the Living Bible Edition.

Reign of Roman Catholic Terror in Sri Lanka and lessons for Present Rulers
It was necessary for present and future generations to learn from past mistakes. The Portuguese became advisers of kings such as Bhuveneka Bahu V11 and he gave official sanction for missionary work and passed on the responsibility of making his grandson Dharmapala king of Kotte to Portugal. Here then was the beginning of a religious conflict, where the population turned angrily against the Portuguese and continued their resistence. The populace living in a country where there was religious freedom, tolerance and co-existence was unable to stomach the religious oppression and the suppression of intellectual and spiritual learning.

Male domination in Lankan labour force, says UN
The United Nations (UN) in its International Women`s Day message said yesterday that although Sri Lanka had achieved significant progress towards equal rights for women, the gap between the sexes in the country`s labour force was the 20th largest in the world.
The recent progress report on the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) in Sri Lanka highlights a range of inequities between men and women one of the most apparent being the labour force participation rate where Sri Lanka records the twentieth largest gap in labour force participation between the sexes. The participation of women in parliament continues to be low with only 5.7% of parliamentarians being women.

Chilling chick torture experiment proves hens hurt too

A crack team from the University of Bristol has demonstrated that chickens show empathy or at least hens do when their chicks are being tortured with puffed air.
The researchers suggest that empathy `most probably evolved to facilitate parental care`, so they decided to see whether mothers_day.jsp' class=black>mother hens `responded to an aversive stimulus directed at their chicks`.

Japan - Earth Quake Makes the Day shorter by 1.6 Micro seconds.
Saturday, 12 March 2011 - 4:38 AM SL Time
|
-- You won`t notice it, but the day just got a tiny bit shorter because of Friday`s giant earthquake off the coast of Japan.
NASA geophysicist Richard Gross calculated that Earth`s rotation sped up by 1.6 microseconds. That`s because of the shift in Earth`s mass caused by the 8.9-magnitude earthquake. A microsecond is one-millionth of a second.
That change in rotation speed is slightly more than the one caused by last year`s larger Chile earthquake. But 2004`s bigger Sumatra earthquake caused a 6.8-microsecond shortening of the day.

New research shows that new dads experience baby blues too: 7% of new fathers reported recent major depression, and many of them said they had spanked their 1-year-old babies.
The new study published Monday in the journal Pediatrics focused on the impact of postpartum depression on specific parenting behaviors. Researchers analyzed interview data on 1,746 fathers who were living with 1-year-old babies in 1999-2000 in 16 major U.S. cities. The researchers found that 41% of those who reported feeling depressed spanked their babies, compared with 13% of dad without depression.

Notre Dame psychology professor Darcia Narvaez, confirms earlier work suggesting that children who get more positive touch and affection during infancy turn out to be kinder, more intelligent and to care more about others.
Studies suggested: children who are shown more affection early in life reap big benefits. Researchers found that kids who were held more by their parents, whose cries received quick responses in infancy and who were disciplined without corporal punishment were more empathic that is, they were better able to understand the minds of others later in life.

Are America`s Best Days Behind Us?
Thursday, 17 March 2011 - 12:25 AM SL Time

I am an American, not by accident of birth but by choice. I voted with my feet and became an American because I love this country and think it is exceptional. But when I look at the world today and the strong winds of technological change and global competition, it makes me nervous. Perhaps most unsettling is the fact that while these forces gather strength, Americans seem unable to grasp the magnitude of the challenges that face us. Despite the hyped talk of China`s rise, most Americans operate on the assumption that the U.S. is still No. 1.

Workshop on experiences of the cronies in the Vijithapura war maneuvers after jailing Dutugemunu who won the war (Winning Commander In The Jail. Foreigners are Laughing at it.)

(Lanka-e-News, 21,March 2011, 10.35AM) The Sri Lanka (SL) Army is gearing to hold a workshop entitled `Defeating Terrorism The Sri Lankan Experience` inviting the security Forces of 54 countries. From the point of view of the SL Army, conducting such a workshop is not out of place. But from the point of view of the SL broad political scene, a result ought to be achieved not by a victory in armed conflict alone but also probing how the ethnic issue can be resolved by a political solution? This is the political meaning. Hence, because there is no evidence of any action taken in that direction, a number of factors have to be evaluated in order that the 54 countries shall comprehend this subject in the right perspective.

The Buddha said:
In those who
reject what should,
& do what shouldn`t be done
heedless, insolent
effluents grow.
But for those who
are well-applied, constantly,
to mindfulness immersed in the body
don`t indulge
in what shouldn`t be done
& persist
in what should
mindful, alert
effluents come to an end.
Dhp 21
Comments: The Buddha observed that all actions have a cause, and that once the act is performed, there is a result. He asks us to be heedful, mindful and alert to how the mind causes itself and others avoidable suffering, stress, and pain. The Noble One assures us that if we allow our minds to leave the present moment, we are then unable to maintain watch over the tendency the mind has to flow out of the present, toward the past, future, sense objects, fantasies, opinions, ideas, or into defiled mental states such as greed, anger, lust, jealousy, and hatred.

The USA is the chief mover and shaker behind a global conspiracy aimed at fooling the entire world into thinking the USA wanted nothing to do with the intervention in Libya, with Cameron and Sarkozy as his lap dogs that enabled the charade.
Having achieved that aim the USA can intervene in Libya in order to secure a Libyan Government more favourable to US interests. That outcome would be less likely to happen if the citizens of the world knew that the USA secretly wanted to interfere in Libya from the outset.

HANA ( Blue Agave, Agave tequilana) As An Alternative Cash Crop (Liquor, fiber, Low glycemic sweetner)
Tuesday, 29 March 2011 - 4:24 AM SL Time
|
Blue Agave (Agave tequilana) a low-glycemic sweetener
Organic Blue Agave is much sweeter than sugar, but with a glycemic index of only 11 (sugar has a glycemic index of 68-85). In recipes, use 1/2 to 3/4 cup in place of 1 cup sugar. You may also need to reduce the amount of liquid, just as you would for honey. Use like honey in beverages or on cereal, bread, etc.
Organic agave syrup (and tequila) is made from the sap from hearts (pi as) of the agave or maguey (pronounced `mah-gay`) plant. It is known as a succulent and, although it shares a common habitat with many cacti, it is not one itself and has a different life cycle. A mature agave has leaves 5-8 feet tall, and is 7-12 feet in diameter. It has a lifespan of 8-15 years, depending on species, growing conditions and climate.

`The oil-exporting countries should opt for nationalisation because of the rapid fall in oil prices. We must put the issue on the table and discuss it seriously,` said Gaddafi.

Libya: The Law Is Clear - It Is Illegal To Arm The `Rebels`
Thursday, 31 March 2011 - 12:35 AM SL Time
|
The law is the law, and it is crystal clear. Under the UN Charter and Resolutions 1970 and 1973 it would be illegal for any entity to arm the `rebels` in Libya and in so doing, this would constitute a breach of international law, leaving the perpetrators open to criminal liability. And has anyone researched the history of the `rebel` movement?
The legal principle which governs international law
The legal principle of the UN Charter is to avoid war and to ensure peace that is why any act of aggression outside the specific scope of a Resolution must necessarily pass by a separate Resolution in the UN Security Council. Since the scope of the resolutions covering Libya - UNSC Resolutions 1970 (2011) and 1973 (2011) - do not include the supply of weaponry to the `rebel` cause in Libya - but instead prohibit it and cover attacks on civilians, then under no circumstances whatsoever would it be admissible, acceptable or legal for any entity to supply weapons or train the `rebels` against the Libyan authorities.

14 funny and 14 not so funny statistics about `economic recovery`
Friday, 1 April 2011 - 1:39 AM SL Time
|
Today there are two very different Americas. In one America, the stock market is soaring, huge bonuses are taken for granted, the good times are rolling and people are spending money as if they will be able to `live the dream` for the rest of their lives. In the other America, the one where most of the rest of us live, unemployment is rampant, a million families were kicked out of their homes last year and hordes of American families are drowning in debt. The gap between the rich and the poor is bigger today than it ever has been before. In fact, this article is not so much about `rich vs poor` as it is about `the rich vs the rest of us`. Barack Obama and Ben Bernanke keep touting an `economic recovery`, but the truth is that the only ones that seem to be benefiting from this recovery are those at the very top of the economic food chain.
