White House refuses to answer questions about al-Awlaki killing:

Unlike the press briefings that followed the killing of Osama bin Laden, White House Press Secretary Jay Carney largely refused to answer questions about the US-led drone attack that killed Anwar al-Awlaki, the American-born radical Islamic preacher turned propaganda chief for al-Qaida, in Yemen on Friday.

`This is a significant fact, that al-Awlaki is dead,` Carney told reporters. `Questions about the circumstances about his death . . . I`m not going to get into,` Cutline quoted the official as having said.

Raj Rajaratnam jailed for 11 years for insider trading: PAWANDA..

Fallen hedge fund tycoon, Lankan born Raj Rajaratnam has been sentenced to 11 years in prison after his conviction for the biggest Wall Street insider trading case in decades.

The prison term is a major victory for the 54-year-old. Prosecutors had pushed for 25-year sentence after convicting Rajaratnam in the biggest insider trading investigation ever conducted by US authorities.

His crimes and the scope of his crimes reflect a virus in our business culture that needs to be eradicated, US district judge Richard Holwell said. The judge also ordered Rajaratnam to pay a $10m fine.

Government to raise the defence spending

Sri Lanka on Tuesday announced it would raise defence spending by over five percent in 2012, more than two years after the decades-long war ended.

The government allocated 230 billion rupees ($2.1 billion) for the calendar year 2012, up from 215 billion rupees ($1.92 billion) estimated for defence expenses in 2011, according to official figures tabled in parliament Tuesday.

Sri Lanka has maintained that it needs to keep defence spending high, to repay hefty instalments on military hardware bought to fight the separatist Tamil Tigers.

Chinese toddler left bloody in hit-and-run dies :((((((((((

..BEIJING (AP) A toddler who was twice run over by vans and then ignored by passers-by on a busy market street died Friday a week after the accident and after days of bitter soul-searching over declining morality in China.

The Guangzhou Military District General Hospital said that the 2-year-old girl, Wang Yue, died shortly after midnight of brain and organ failure. `Her injuries were too severe and the treatment had no effect,` intensive care unit director Su Lei told reporters.

The plight of the child, nicknamed Yueyue, came to symbolize what many Chinese see as a decay in public morals after heady decades of economic growth and rising prosperity.

Sampanthan hails Banda as greatest Sinhala leader :))))))

TNA leader R. Sampanthan yesterday said S. W. R. D. Bandaranaike was the greatest Sinhala leader the country had ever seen.

Participating in a debate on an adjournment motion on issues concerning the people of the North and East, the TNA leader praised the pioneer of the SLFP Bandaranaike for his visionary leadership.

Had Bandaranaike-Chelvanayakam Pact been implemented the country could have avoided the armed struggle of Tamils for their rights. The Pact was meant to protect the cultural and linguistic rights of the Tamil people. But the implementation of the pact was not possible thanks to the political rivalry of two main Sinhala parties.

Clash looms between police and protesters outside CHOGM: STUPID tamils warned...:))))))

A clash is looming between police and protesters planning to occupy a central Perth square, with authorities insisting that overnight camping there won`t be allowed. Premier Colin Barnett says protesters have a right to make their point peacefully during Perth`s hosting of the Commonwealth leaders` meeting, but they must not interfere with the event.

He told reporters yesterday he did not think Occupy Perth protesters would be allowed to camp out in Forrest Place, as they propose to do for the three days of the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting.
