`Misplaced Loyalties`
[TamilNet, Monday, 03 October 2011, 05:17 GMT]
Genuine anti-imperialism does not lie in mere abstract anti-American/anti-west sloganeering, writes RM Karthick, a freelance writer based in Chennai. In the wake of a `post-national world` discourse framed by apologists of multi-national capitalism and equally regressive capitalist-bureaucratic models as upheld by states like Turkey, China and Russia - both aiding the logic of genocidal states like Sri Lanka, anti-imperialism in concrete requires solidarity with national liberation struggles and their progressive representatives, he further writes in an article that appeared in West Bengal based Sanhati online journal on Saturday. The regimes in Cuba and Venezuela end up as political opportunists by supporting mass murderers and despots like Rajapaksa who virulently implement neo-liberal policies in deed, but put up a sham `anti-Americanism` in words, the writer from Tamil Nadu says.

Dutch Court overrides Koppe`s challenge against Judges
Wednesday, 5 October 2011 - 2:22 AM SL Time

The Hague Chamber of Recusal ruled that the panel of three judges in the case of five alleged Dutch Tamil citizens charged with providing material assistance to Liberation Tigers, can continue, after the panel considered a challenge to the judges submitted by defense lawyer, Victor Koppe, for refusing to let Koppe continue with the 200-page address beyond 5:00 p.m., Radio Netherlands Worldwide (RNW) reported Monday. Koppe said the trial was `unfair` as the Judges `shamelessly ignored his request for an additional 30 minutes of defense argument.

Blake wooed genocidal Sri Lanka Army to help Afghan war
[TamilNet, Friday, 07 October 2011, 09:30 GMT]
Within months of a war masterminded to end in the genocide of Eezham Tamils, the US Asst Secretary of State Robert Blake wooed the genocidal Sri Lanka Army`s help in the US-led war in Afghanistan, reveals a Wikileaks document. In a meeting that took place in Colombo on 8th December 2009 with SL Defence Secretary Gotabhaya Rajapaksa, Blake raised the possibility of Sri Lanka contributing to U.S.-led coalition operations in Afghanistan, noting that would be a significant step in support of improving military-to-military engagement, briefs a classified cable of the US embassy in Colombo. Citing Muslim sentiments and ire of Islamic organizations, Gotabhaya avoided committing on any direct involvement, but he came out with an alternative for Sri Lanka providing covert training assistance in Afghanistan through NGOs and Private Military Companies.

Tamil NGO and political circles in Jaffna say Housing scheme for displaced civilians of North and East, announced by India last year, has failed to deliver.

Snail pace delivery of houses with Indian assistance, mere 0.1% completed
[Sat, 08 Oct 2011, 14:38 GMT]
Housing scheme for displaced civilians of North and East, announced by India last year, has failed to deliver, according to Tamil NGO and political circles in Jaffna. India had announced last year that it would construct 50,000 houses for the displaced in the North and East. However, only 53 houses have been constructed so far till October 2011, Tamil NGO sources said. Plans were afoot in Mannaar, Vavuniyaa, Ki`linochchi, Mullaiththeevu and Jaffna in North to construct houses for the war-displaced people. Earlier this year, when asked on the lack of progress of Indian announcement, Indian officials in the island responded that at least one thousand houses will be constructed before the end of 2011. The officials diluted the commitment further indicating that the numbers also included repair of existing houses

Computer Virus Attacks U.S. Drones, But They Keep Droning On

In Creech Air Force Base, somewhere in the vast federally-owned desert that is Nevada, in a ho-hum little building, are a series of rooms each equipped with what could pass for giant video game consoles, with racks of screens and servers displaying what`s happening every time someone jostles the joystick. This is where pilots are remotely flying America`s fleet of drones yes, with a joystick as they buzz over Afghanistan, Pakistan, and Iraq, snapping spy photos and firing Hellfire missiles down on stubborn jihadists. About two weeks ago, a computer virus infected many of theses systems, Wired has learned. (It likely happened when one of the pilots used a thumb drive to upload some map data or the like.) Yet the virus didn`t shut the whole program down according to the AP, all drone missions are continuing as scheduled. But what the virus is doing may ultimately be more sinister and far more damaging, as the Wired article explains.

Aussie Foreign Affairs Dept. backs Samarasinghe appointment
Thursday, 20 October 2011 - 4:52 PM SL Time

Australian Foreign affairs officials say they saw no reason to keep Sri Lanka`s high commissioner to Australia from taking up his posting.

The Australian Greens and Tamil groups want Thisara Samarasinghe recalled or expelled over unproven claims he is responsible for war crimes.

The Australian Federal Police is currently assessing a dossier prepared by the International Commission of Jurists said to detail evidence of war crimes committed during the government`s final 2009 offensive against the Tamil Tiger rebels.

Outfits serving Sri Lanka target international media investigation: Channel 4
[TamilNet, Thursday, 20 October 2011, 16:30 GMT]
Sri Lanka`s Killing Fields broadcast by Channel 4 had to face an organized campaign against it originating from the Sri Lankan ministry of defence, said British Channel 4 head of news and current affairs Dorothy Byrne testifying before the Communications Committee of the House of Lords of the British Parliament Tuesday. Citing the example, she warned the committee on the plight of international media`s investigative journalism facing increasingly sophisticated and orchestrated campaigns by hired PR companies and lobbying groups. Inappropriate Sri Lanka connections of the British defence secretary Dr. Liam Fox made him to resign this month. One of his connections was with Bell Pottinger, a PR company hired by Sri Lanka until recently.

Gadaafi death -A Dutch-British team is going to Libya to conduct an independent inquiry.
Saturday, 22 October 2011 - 1:21 PM SL Time

The United Nations has called for an investigation into how Libya`s ousted leader Muammar Gaddafi died. A Dutch-British team of forensic experts is ready to travel to Libya to conduct an independent inquiry.

This is in the interest of the National Transitional Council`s continued credibility , spokesman Pim Volkers of the Independent Forensic Team is quoted by Radio Netherlands Worldwide (RNW) as having said.

Images of Muammar Gaddafi`s capture are raising questions about his death. The pictures clearly show that he was alive when captured. According to statements by the transitional council, he was killed in a firefight that broke after he was captured. The available images raise doubts about the accuracy of the official account.

TNA Deleagation Leaves for USA to discuss Eelam- An Academic`s observations on this.
Monday, 24 October 2011 - 11:35 PM SL Time

The following were observations made by a veteran Tamil politician in the island:

The genocidal war and the scene set for an escalated structural genocide in the wake of the international community leaving every thing in the hands of the genocidal State after the war, have made Eezham Tamils especially in the free diaspora to spell out their political priority of seeing peace based on the Tamil right to self-determination and sovereignty.

The paradigm or `reconciliation` set by the US State Department immediately after the war without any political formula or guarantees attached to it and the subsequent call for war crimes investigation, once again without any political recognition of the fundamentals of the crisis, have caused deep grievances and distrust among Tamils in the island and in the diaspora.

Australia facilitates timed diplomatic advantage for genocidal Sri Lanka
[TamilNet, Tuesday, 25 October 2011, 14:59 GMT]
After creating much sensation by the Australian Prime Minister herself confirming on a federal police investigation of a war crimes case against SL president and envoy, the Attorney General of Australia on Tuesday quashed the case as it would be in breach of domestic law and Australia`s obligations under international law, bestowing genocidal Sri Lanka with a well-timed diplomatic victory on the eve of the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meet in Perth, Australia. Meanwhile, the Sri Lankan delegation in Australia on Tuesday went to the extent of even denying the occurrence of any war at all in the island. Number one, there was no war in Sri Lanka. There was brutal terrorism in Sri Lanka led by the Tamil Tigers in Sri Lanka, said Bandula Jayasekara of the Sri Lankan delegation to ABC.

Australia`s detention frustrates Eezham Tamil to kill himself
[TamilNet, Wednesday, 26 October 2011, 13:44 GMT]
An Eezham Tamil asylum seeker, already accepted as a refugee in Australia, but waiting for long to get `security clearance` from the Australian intelligence to come out of his `detention,` killed himself Tuesday night. Earlier on that day, which was also the Deepaavali festival day, his request to go out to visit a friend for the festival was turned down by the authorities. When asked by the media, whether the government takes any responsibility, the Australian Immigration Minister, Chris Bowen said We take responsibility for ensuring that people have the chance to make their claims and for ensuring that national security is taken into account. We cannot and will not compromise on matters of national security. Twice, Australia readily accepted Sri Lanka`s military commanders accused in the genocide of Eezham Tamils as `Ambassadors`.

Scars of genocide to serve culture of imperialism-says Mr. RM Karthick, a researcher from Tamil Nadu
Thursday, 27 October 2011 - 8:39 PM SL Time

[TamilNet, Thursday, 27 October 2011, 12:42 GMT]
When the emissary of India, a country that backed Sri Lanka in its genocidal campaign against the Tamil people, marks out an artist to promote `cultural revival` in their homelands, can this act and the performance be devoid of politics, asks Mr. RM Karthick, a social science researcher from Tamil Nadu working in a British university, commenting on the recent `cultural tour` of Chennai based Carnatic singer T M Krishna in the occupied country of Eezham Tamils. The Hindu on October 23 carried an article by Krishna on his visit to Jaffna, saying the performance went `beyond the scars`. Artistes don`t stand for elections, don`t fight on the battlefield but we offer to everyone the very breath of life happiness, Krishna said in The Hindu article.
