Sri Lanka was able to celebrate some victories in cricket, rugby, beach volleyball, boxing and weight lifting but the setbacks in the other major sports should be critically evaluated.

The virtues and benefits of a good night`s sleep have been extolled for centuries now, but the one thing that is coming into focus along with this is the importance of using a night cream that can help to heal and repair the damage inflicted on the skin during the day.
Busting the myth that night creams are only for those above 40 or are unnecessary, Supriya Niwasi, a make-up stylist and technician, says, `That was two decades ago, but the truth is that now with high amounts of UV rays, pollution and the hectic lifestyle that we lead, sleep is the only time when the skin gets uninterrupted rest and time to repair itself.`

What Was The Big Hurry To Name SL Squad?
Sunday, 16 January 2011 - 11:15 AM SL Time
|
Why did Sri Lanka name its World Cup squad in such a hurry when the ICC deadline to participating countries to confirm their final 15-member squads is January 19, 2011?
That is the million dollar question asked in the sports circles for which only the national selectors could give an answer to justify their controversial act.
Out of all ICC full member states, Sri Lanka was the first country to name its final 15-member World Cup squad on January 7. What was the big hurry in naming Sri Lanka`s World Cup squad 12 days before the stipulated deadline? Was that a move to prevent experienced national cricketers regaining form during the last two weeks before the ICC deadline so that the selectors could conveniently shut them out?

Alarm Bells Ring Over Premadasa Stadium Pitch

With less than 30 days remaining for the start of the ICC Cricket World Cup 2011, the pitch at the R. Premadasa Stadium in Colombo is raising concerns. Both semi-finals in the ongoing inter-provincial limited over tournament played there have resulted in low scores, prompting fears that the pitch maybe unsuitable for the World Cup.
The R. Premadasa Stadium will host seven matches including three of Sri Lanka`s six group stage matches, a quarter-final and a semi-final. The stadium has been under extensive renovation since 2009, but hosted the second Test match between Sri Lanka and West Indies in November last year. On that occasion, the pitch showed no signs of being unsuitable for international cricket.

When Sri Lanka won the World Cup, cricket`s ultimate challenge in 1996, virtually the entire population or at least those who found their way to a television set were literally on their toes watching the final.
Tamil separatist rebels or the Tamil Tigers, not to be outdone, also cried a temporary halt to the spate of attacks and violence.
It was rumored that both government soldiers and the rebels had signed off on a temporary truce to watch the match and `not disturb the other`. Whether it really happened no one is certain, not the Sri Lankan public for sure! However the stars were undoubtedly Sri Lanka playing Australia at the Lahore stadium and the only fireworks in Sri Lanka that night on March 17 was watching Aravinda de Silva slam a century and take the Sri Lanka through to an exhilarating victory.

Dilanka MANNAKKARA
He steals the spot light with his toe crushers, bouncers and wicket taking ability and also his `Lion like` hair style, breath taking tattoos and piercings. He is Lasith `slinger` Malinga who is one of Lanka`s best match winners and this author met up with him and had a chat about his much spoken test retirement, about the World Cup and the Melbourne miracle. Here are some excerpts from the interview.

Monday, 31 January 2011 - 6:16 PM SL Time

by Rex Clementine
The optimism that Kumar Sangakkara`s side will repeat the World Cup winning performance of Arjuna Ranatunga`s 1996 heroes is quite high among cricket fans, but one thing that`s standing in the current squad`s way is the country`s inefficient and corrupt cricket administration. Ranatunga and the crowd were presented with a smooth platform to perform 15 years ago, as cricket administration was in the safe hands those days with Ana Punchihewa as the head of Board of Control for Cricket in Sri Lanka.
