TIGER TEMPLE IN THAILAND........

This is extraordinary

The tiger temple in Thailand is a place where an extraordinary bond between man and the world`s biggest cats has been formed. The tigers here are so peaceful its almost as if they have accepted Buddhism as their religion. In fact, they even sit for the meditating sessions with the monks and kneel down in front of them as it they are the gurus. The tigers are so docile that the monks have to sometimes train them to fight otherwise they would lose all their power of self protection.

He further added that like how a military court decision cannot terminate the post of a Parliamentary member , it cannot also mete out jail sentence to a member of Parliament.

While this the legal position . Withdrawing the MP post and meting out jail sentence to the former Army Commander and Colombo District MP Sarath Fonseka based on a military court decision only demonstrates the despotic and dictatorial administration in this country.

The Local Government Bill Is Good For the Country - Former CJ - Opposition Charges are Baseless.
Friday, 12 November 2010 - 11:12 PM SL Time

The Local Government Bill that has been proposed, where they intend on having a certain proportion elected through the First-Past-The-Post system and the rest through the Proportional Representation system. Do you feel minority parties will get adequate representation through this system?

In my view it is a good system. Because especially in local government there has to be someone to take responsibility, for the smallest entity the ward. Now under the present system you don`t get that. Now if you take the provincial council there are so many members you don`t know whose from this particular Ward- so he can always say no this is not my ward, this is someone else`s ward I got my preferential votes from somewhere else . But here there is a fixation of responsibility and I think that is a very important thing. Even for minority parties this is good because the Ward is a really small entity, so if the minority is concentrated in a particular area there is every possibility that their candidate will be elected, this would guarantee a lot of things. The mixed system between the FPTP and the PR will be an equalizer with regard to the numerical strength of parties so I think it is a good experiment to try. And I am very hopeful that it will succeed and I think that it should be brought to the national level as well.

In a strange turn of events, the Treasury has amended the circular relating to vehicle imports enabling more MPs to import vehicles for their personal use under duty concessions, government sources said yesterday.

In a circular issued earlier this year, the government decided to issue permits for MPs to import vehicles with duty concessions if they had not used this facility during the past five years. The five year period was counted from the day when an MP had imported his vehicle to the country. As such most members who were in the previous parliament were not entitled for new permits since they were yet to complete the required five year period.

Cheryl Perera began speaking about the horrors of child sexual exploitation and sexual tourism in high school at the age of 16, after reading about it for a school project. Soon after, she traveled to Sri Lanka, where she went undercover as a decoy in a sting to nab a pedophile. There, she was able to talk to the children themselves, hear their stories. When she asked them how she could help, they responded.

The problem of child sexual exploitation is world-wide, and if young people around the globe, working with the model Cheryl created with OneChild, get involved in working to end child sex trafficking and tourism, they can make a difference.
