The UK has revoked five export licences for equipment to the Israeli navy because of actions during Israel`s Operation Cast Lead in Gaza this year.

The British Foreign office said the exports would now contravene its criteria for arms sales, but denied that it had imposed a partial embargo.

The UK says it does not sell weapons which might be used for internal repression or external aggression.

Israel says its troops complied fully with international law during missions.

The 22-day operation which ended on 18 January has been widely condemned as disproportionate by critics.

Self-rule introduced in Greenland

The Arctic island of Greenland is assuming self-rule, in the latest step towards independence from Denmark.

The move follows a referendum on greater autonomy in November. It will see Greenland take a greater share of revenues from its natural resources.

The local government is taking control of the police and the courts. Greenlandic - or Kalaallisut - becomes the official language.

Denmark has the final say in defence and foreign-policy matters.

srilanka army fights the ltte in the northern srilanka known as the ltte`s defacto state is almost a total failier when it come to the civilians casualties.

the aim of the war is not even clear in the minds of srilankan govt. whether they want to weaken the ltte or completely destroy the ltte or to consolidate mahinda rajapakse`s constituencies is unknown. but one thing is so sure..the FISH the gosl went for resulted in the severe humanitarian crisis which questions srilanka`s capability /capacity to wage a conventional war and the ability to fight the urban warfare.

then, puts the blame on the ltte...calling it a suicide bomb....

actually this is what happened....

srilanka has the intention to kill the tamils..

srilanka has blamed the ltte for all the bombs which goes off in the public places.. in the past.. and present...

srilanka bombs the safe zone where it is packed to kill as many civilians as possible at one go with just one shell..((if 100 fired there will be more...more the merrier..they seems to think) as there is no neutral party to witness it..

why are we blaming the ltte or the tamils for the sinhala cause and for the pleasure of the sinhala people?? they are waging a war, they are killing the innocents and they are committing so much crimes against the humanity and causing hardship to the very people they (so called liberators) call them as theirs..

it is true, the Sinhalese have built a Buddhist state in the last sixty years and subsequent to the sinhala only Buddhist state the Tamils have built the ltte...whether the ltte is good or bad and equally whether the sinhala only Buddhist state is good or bad should be decided by the people as the time goes in the near future, however, the sinhala people have no right to kill the innocent Tamil civilians under at any circumstances!

i condemn the sinhala refugees in france carrying their flag and shouting while protesting...for no reason... besides polluting the goodwill of france..

impartial should explain what the sinhalese are doing with that piece of cloth!

Massacre aid group quits S.Lanka, wants inquiry

LONDON, June 17 (Reuters) - An aid agency that lost 17 local tsunami aid workers in a massacre in Sri Lanka two years ago said on Tuesday it had no confidence in the government investigation and had quit the island in protest.

Action Contre la Faim (ACF) -- also known as Action against Hunger -- said it wanted an international inquiry into the murders, which took place in the northeastern town of Muttur after days of fighting in August 2006 between security forces and rebels of the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE).
