More civilians escape LTTE tyranny in Wanni
The third group of civilians who had been able to escape the LTTE tyranny in Wanni via land routes arrived at Omanthai this morning (Nov 23).

According to the defence.lk special correspondent in Omanthai, 81 civilians arrived in two groups. He said the first group comprising of 43 males and 28 females of 15 families arrived around 7.45 AM while the other comprising 6 males and 4 females arrived around 10 AM. The majority of the refugees were youth while there were few children too, he said. There were residents of Kanakarayankulam, Sinnadampan, Puthukulam and Nainamdu areas, he added.

Manjula Kumari, the actress in the Sinhala teledrama `Olu` became one of the popular and sought after actresses in the Sinhala Tele drama circles. She gave a memorable performance in `Olu` which lifted her higher pedestal.

No clues about Anarkali: Police

Wellawatte police said no clues could be found on the whereabouts of actress Anarkali Akarsha who had lodged a complaint claiming that an alleged attempt was made under the influence of Western Provincial Councillor, Duminda Silva to abduct her.

Disclosing the development with regard to the preliminary inquiry into a complaint made by Janitha Anarkali alias Anarkali Akarsha Jayathilake to the Kollupitiya police, Inspector, Lakmal Amarasekara, Crime Branch OIC of Wellawatte police said she had claimed that an alleged attempt was made to abduct her from a house in Swarna Road, Wellawatte on July 3. Kollupitiya police has directed the preliminary investigation to Wellawatte police.

HISTORY OF TORONTO MAHA VIHARA

In the late 1960`s, the spiritual needs of the Buddhist community in Toronto were fulfilled by invited guests to deliver sermons, once or twice a year at different rented locations. The congregations at these events evolved themselves into Canadian Buddhist Vihara Society. The first official meeting of this group was met at 126 Scarborough Crescent in Scarborough. A Board of 15 committee members was elected and was registered in 1973 in the province of Ontario as Canadian Buddhist Vihara Society.
