Sabotage has not been ruled out as investigations are in progress into yesterday`s fire at Container Yard No. 1 in Port of Colombo.


Textiles and electronic items, worth millions of rupees were destroyed in the blaze.


Sources in the Colombo Port said that it was the biggest ever fire that had occurred in the port.


Chairman of the Sri Lanka Ports Authority Dr. Priyath B. Wickrema said that the fire had occurred around 1.00 a.m.

WASHINGTON Reporters and photographers were evacuated briefly from the West Wing of the White House early Saturday because of smoke from an overheated transformer in a mechanical room.

U.S. Secret Service spokesman Max Milien said that at about 7 a.m., smoke was seen coming from a mechanical room closet on the first floor.

`Early this morning, an electrical transformer near the West Wing malfunctioned and set off a smoke alarm in the West Wing,` a White House official said in a statement.

Harper and Baird should clean their own backyard before coming to CHOGM

The Canadian Prime Minister Stephen Harper and his Foreign Minister John Baird are leading the charge against Sri Lanka as the venue for this year`s Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting (CHOGM) in November. The language used by Harper and Baird, including references to evil and appalling , seems quite out of proportion to the significance of CHOGM as an international gathering, as well as its utility to Sri Lanka as perceived by Sri Lankans.

After a grueling month of travel which took me to some of the most important Buddhist pilgrimage sites and two side shows to see the Mount Everest at dawn with the Himalaya range and the Ultimate symbol of love - The Taj Maha..

Only disappointment was not been able to see Mount Everest from a hill top place called Nagrakot in Nepal due to weather gods not cooperating with us. Oh well, we had a thick fog due to the smog condition down in Kathmandu. There is always another time. Due to the high altitude I had a breathing problem for a few minutes which I over came after a rest.

Came to pay homage to lord buddha ay his birth place.

One good thing i noticed was that there are no cigarettes for sale at the duty free. Now that is one healthy move.

Also i noticed that there are less mosquitoes. The Dengu program have worked.
