I`m not speaking to you today as I would have done before, for security reasons , he said as we sat down to an interview, among other things, he recalled what he had gone through a few months ago. On the 1st of June Poddala Jayantha, secretary of the Sri Lanka Working Journalists Association (SLWJA) was abducted and brutally assaulted. The assault has left him in a dire anxiety for the security of his family, while he has himself been in crutches ever since.
I was in hospital for 29 days. I maybe able to keep my feet properly on the ground in a month or two but doctors say that I would be limping for the rest of my life , he continued, pointing at the steel plates that were inserted into his foot.

visiting Tamil Nadu parliamentary delegation today called for the release of the displaced people in camps in Vavuniya, the restoration of democracy and a political solution to the conflict.
In an address made at the Jaffna library this morning head of the visiting delegation T.R.Balu said a political solution is necessary to resolve the conflict which had lasted for more than 25 years.
He added that the Sri Lankan and Indian Tamils had a strong bond, a relationship which is also reflected in the ties between India and Sri Lanka.

Will Fonseka become Musharaff or Perara ?

A senior official at the Presidential Secretariat told Lanka News Web that Chief of Defence Staff General Sarath Fonseka has rejected the additional appointment given to him as Sports Ministry Secretary by the President.
The official said General Fonseka earlier rejected several requests made by the President for him to take over as secretary of either the Export Development Ministry or the Power and Energy Ministry.
The official also said the conflict between Defence Secretary Gotabhaya Rajapaksa and General Sarath Fonseka has further intensified due to changes made by Major General Shavendra Silva to Fonseka`s photographs at the Army exhibition at BMICH following Gotabhaya`s orders.

IT is not Often that we see two Courts give two different judgements for the Same offense done in two different states.
Jaswanth Singh who wrote a Book abt Jinnah which was Banned by Gujarat Govt got his ban overturned by Gujarat High court which passed caustic remarks on the state govt. Jaswant was infact praising Jinnah & blamed Nehru, Sardar for Partition of India & Pakistan.
Jaswant was a Former Army Captain turned Politician from the Majority Hindu Community & is Praised now as role model for standing upto freedom of Speech.

India`s successful defense of Nehru cup 2009 has to go down as their best moment in footballing history in the past quarter of a century.
By all parameters, this triumph would come better off than the LG cup win in Vietnam 2002 or the Nehru cup win in Delhi, 2007.
having won in 2007, there were expectations of a win this time around - from the country, from the crowd at the Ambedkar stadium, from the coach and from the players within.

V.O.C. (spelt Vaa. Oo.Ce in Tamil), was an Indian freedom fighter born on 5 September 1872 in Ottapidaram, Tuticorin district of Tamil Nadu State of India. He was a prominent lawyer, and a trade union leader. He gets credit for launching the first indigenous Indian shipping service between Tuticorin and Colombo with the Swadeshi Steam Navigation Company, competing against British ships. He was an Indian National Congress (INC) member, later charged with sedition by the British government and sentenced to life imprisonment his barrister license was stripped. He is also known as `Kappalottiya Tamilan`` in Tamil க ப ப ல ோ ட ் ட ி ய த ம ி ழ ன ் `.
