Do they experience any hardship professionally due to ethnicity? If so, how come they hold such high positions?

Appeal fails, two Sri Lankans beheaded in Saudi, says SLBFE

Three persons including two Sri Lankans, a male and a female were beheaded yesterday after a Saudi Arabial court rejected their appeals over the killing of an elderly female at Jeddah in 2006, said Sri Lanka Bureau of Foreign Employment (SLBFE) chairman Kingsley Ranawaka.
The two Sri Lankans and an Indian were sentenced to death while the other five in the group of seven were sentenced to five years in prison by a Saudi Arabian court for strangling to death an elderly female at her home in Jeddah and robbing her jewellery.

Alavi MoulanaHold the Presidential election first instead of the Parliamentary general elections. This was resolved unanimously.
At the seventh National Convention of the SLFP oriented Sri Lanka Nidahas Sevaka Sangamaya held at the Temple Trees yesterday, it was unanimously resolved to recommend holding first the Presidential election.
They have also urged that the Parliamentary General Election should follow, after holding the presidential election.

This song was written and sung by the singer after his first visit to Okinawa.The title `Shima Uta` means Island Song.
Okinawan songs are more like traditional sons of Sri Lanka
and South India.It`s a tropical Island like Sri Lanka and I hear that there are vegetables like what we have in Sri Lanka including
Manioc.

SINGAPORE, Nov 3, 2009 (AFP) -
A Singaporean opposition party member will be extradited to the United States and tried for allegedly trying to supply arms to Sri Lanka`s defeated Tamil Tiger rebels, officials here said Tuesday.
Businessman Balldev Naidu, 47, is facing six charges including conspiracy to provide material support to a foreign terrorist organisation and possession of a firearm in 2006, a court official told AFP.

Fiji expels NZ, Australia envoys over Lankan judges` incident
Fiji has ordered the envoys of New Zealand and Australia, its two biggest neighbours, to leave within 24 hours.
The country`s military ruler, Commodore Frank Bainimarama, has accused the two countries of interfering in Fiji`s internal affairs.
Cmdr Bainimarama wants to hire a group of Sri Lankan judges after sacking the judiciary earlier this year.

Sri Lanka army took back the sprawling Vanni region located in the Northern part of Sri Lanka, earlier this year. This part of country had become de facto state of LTTE since many years and government had no writ or control over that part of the country.

Chief of Defence Staff General Sarath Fonseka, now on a private visit to the United States, has been told to face a voluntary meeting with the Department of Homeland Security, prompting fears in Colombo that Washington is asserting its legal authority over the war crimes report released last week.
Reports reaching the highest levels of the Government say US Department of Homeland Security officials want to interview him on Wednesday (November 4) in Tulsa, Oklahoma. Gen. Fonseka, who is a US Green Card holder, has a residence in Oklahoma. His visit is in connection with renewing his Green Card which affords him residency in the US. This is a prelude to US citizenship.

More asylum seekers reach northern Australian Another boatload of asylum seekers has been intercepted off the northern Australian coast. The vessel is the 37th intercepted by Australian authorities this year.
Australian Navy patrol boat HMAS Ararat, operating under the control of Border Protection Command, intercepted the vessel about 4.20pm approaching the Ashmore Islands, between the Kimberley coast and the island of Timor.
Home Affairs Minister Brendan O`Connor said the vessel, thought to have 34 passengers and four crew members on board, was first spotted by a surveillance aircraft crew.

US DronesThe United Nations has warned Washington about indiscriminate use of drone strikes in Pakistan and Afghanistan, saying that it may be breaking humanitarian law.
The UN rights investigator said the United States has done nothing to demonstrate that its not randomly killing civilians in violation of international law through the use of drones.
`My concern is that these drones these predators are being operated in a framework which may well violate international humanitarian law and international human rights law,` UN Special Rapporteur on Extrajudicial Executions Philip Alston told a press conference on Tuesday, 27 October.

Karthikesu Sivathambi Renowned Sri Lankan Tamil scholar Karthikesu Sivathambi finds himself caught in the politics over the World Classical Tamil conference being held in Coimbatore in June 2010.
Denying reports that Prof Sivathambi will not be attending, Chie Minister M Karunanidhi has said the scholar has written to him, agreeing to take part and even suggested topics for discussion.
In a statement, he has said those who are spreading reports that Prof Sivathambi would not take part are acting as stumbling blocks to his efforts to promote Tamil.

The Russian federationhas expressed interest in oil exploration in Sri Lanka. Visiting Russian Foreign Minister Servey V. Lavrov expressed interest in oil exploration in the Mannar bay and the rehabilitation of the Sapugaskanda oil refinery, Sri Lanka Foreign Ministry said in a statement.
Mr. Lavrov, a former diplomat who has worked in Colombo and a Sinhala speaker, is the first Russian Foreign Minister to visit Sri Lanka since diplomatic relations were established in 1957.
