Premasiri Kemadasa Saturday, 25 October 2008 - 9:50 AM SL Time

Prof. Carlo Fonseka once said `I could never finish the novel Golu Hadavatha but watched film multiple times and the reason was Khemadasa.`

No need to mince words. Khemadasa master was certainly the most innovative musician Sri Lanka ever produced in recent times. He was also the only musician of our times who could easily surpass the cultural boundaries in music he created.

As far as I can remember, apart from so many Sinhal movies, he music directed at least two Tamil movies `Ponmani` and one more which I cannot remember.

Remebering Vijaya Sunday, 17 February 2008 - 12:26 PM SL Time

Twenty years ago, then Janatha Vimukthi Peramuna ( JVP) terrorist leadership, while on the run from law, decided that Vijaya Kumaratunge, and actor turned politician who was becoming increasingly popular among masses should be silenced. His wish has been put to action by the hardcore ground workers by triggering a series of bullets to his face, at Vijaya`s Polhengoda home, in front of his children. Later JVP issued a pamphlet justifying the assassination, saying it is the common punishment for any `traitors`.

Ravaya editor Victor Ivan sees the end of historical role played by Prabhakaran Wednesday, 30 January 2008 - 2:34 PM SL Time

(Let me attempt a rough English translation for those the benefit who do not understand Sinhala. Please correct me if there are any misinterpretations)

Prabhakaran may be a good warrior, but in politics he is nobody. He never had any board vision. He does not know when to stop (the war) and that would be the reason for his end.

The biggest weakness of his and his key followers is that they think the best way to talk to Sinhalese is the language of the gun.

`Top of the World` by `The Carpenters` - Dedicated to Bonggo, Zaharan and Ramz Friday, 25 January 2008 - 5:12 PM SL Time

Such a feeling is coming over me
There is wonder in most everything I see
Not a cloud in the sky
Got the sun in my eyes
And I wont be surprised if its a dream

Everything I want the world to be
Is now coming true especially for me
And the reason is clear
Its because you are here
You are the nearest thing to heaven that I have seen

I am on the top of the world looking down on creation
And the only explanation I can find
Is the love that I have found ever since you have been around

Richard M. Stallman in Sri Lanka this week (post dedicated to all FOSS enthusiasts in LNP, including Mr Brown) Wednesday, 16 January 2008 - 9:33 AM SL Time

Richard M. Stallman is visiting Sri Lanka this week. He will conduct two public lectures on free software movement at University of Peradeniya, on 16th January at 2.00pm and SLIIT, on 18th January at 10am.

RMS is one of the most passionate activists I have ever met in my life. He is somebody who lives according to what he preaches. He uses an old laptop (it is so old that the screen now hangs with two copper cables) and that has no proprietary software. Never seen him wearing anything other than t-shirts and denims. But here is someone who has influenced millions of developers across the world, as often called as the father of FOSS.

A Buddhist monk with a sense of humour Monday, 14 January 2008 - 10:12 AM SL Time

I always like people who could laugh. They are genuine and have nothing to hide. The people who cannot laugh are the ones who hide their feelings.

One thing I have noticed about Buddhist monks from my early childhood days, most of them cannot laugh. They appear too serious, indifferent, phlegmatic, dull and boring. I do not know why. They are the people who were supposed to given up everything in life and
why cannot they be happy?

This monk is DIFFERENT. He seemed to have a good sense of humour which he does not mind demonstrating for this group of tourists. Fortunately he speaks in something sounds like English so I do not have to worry about the translations (Please watch fully, the best laughs towards the end)
