Mahinda maama marries Weerawansa nangi Monday, 29 December 2008 - 10:06 AM SL Time

(Posted by Ajith on December 27, 2008)

Our Mahinda maama is more like a Moghul emperor. His greed knows no boundaries. Having a private harem, with other beauties like Ellawala akka and Devananda akka has not prevented the naaki manamalaya from eyeing young and dynamic Weerawansa nangi. By the way, who said Naaki vise Getath use ?

The news of their wedding is no surprise, as Anjana Indrajith of Lakbima correctly notes. Mahinda maama`s nocturnal visits to Weerawansa nangi were well known, even when the latter was officially married to another somnambular oldie Somawansa seeya. Now she is divorced, Mahinda maama does the right thing by properly marrying her. We hope Ellawala akka is not too jealous. After all, there are things Ellawala akka, in spite of her big mouth, cannot perform.

From Bibile with Love Wednesday, 24 December 2008 - 9:59 AM SL Time

I am sure some LNP members well deserve it. They can consider the photos, the latest (taken last week) as their Christmas present this year. You have done a great job. Specially Laith ayya and Mr Brown with the able assistance of Ekanayake. The construction of the house is complete (at a cost of Rs. 550,000) and all it needs is painting. I am told that will be done soon, hopefully in January next year, when the blind lady`s family moves in.

Is Sri Lanka heading for Anarchy? Friday, 19 December 2008 - 3:01 PM SL Time

(Posted by Ajith on December 19, 2008)

A more competent and mature leader might have handled the situation better, but those are certainly not adjectives to describe our present rulers. So yesterday, for the second time, they stubbornly ignored the Supreme Court directive to reduce the petrol prices to Rs. 100, which it easily can, without incurring any losses. This can lead to a serious crisis between the government and judiciary.

JAYAVEVA Supreme Courts prevents Motta Raala from robbing us Rs. 40 from each petrol litre Wednesday, 17 December 2008 - 4:45 PM SL Time

In spite of the falling crude oil prices, Mottaya`s plan was to keep the retail petrol prices at Rs. 140. Shameless man thought he could fill his coffers by taxing poor people.

His move to rob the nation is now blocked by the Supreme Court which ordered petrol prices down to Rs. 100.

A populist move, no doubt but I am happy the slap given on the face of Motta Raala. Love to see his face now. It might look like a `Kaju Lella`.

Causes of conflicts Wednesday, 17 December 2008 - 9:47 AM SL Time

THERE have been nine wars and almost 130 violent conflicts across the world this year, according to an annual report released on Monday December 15th by the Heidelberg Institute for International Conflict Research, a think-tank. The study classifies conflict broadly to include peaceful disputes over politics or borders (low intensity), as well as those involving sporadic or constant violence (medium or high intensity). In 2008 previously non-violent conflicts escalated into violence in countries such as Kenya and Yemen. Ideological change is both the most common cause of conflict and the root of most wars, but there is rarely only one cause of dispute. Congo`s ongoing conflict encompasses a battle for its mineral resources and, according to some, an invasion by another state, Rwanda.

Tamil-speaking people have historic grievances - Dallas Alahapperuma Monday, 15 December 2008 - 1:34 PM SL Time

Minister of Transport Dallas Alahapperuma says the grievances of Tamil-speaking people since olden times need an immediate political solution.

He was speaking at a meeting in Matara town on December 13th.

The minister added that no one could reject the claim that there are injustices common to the Tamil speaking people.

(I SAW THIS PART OF SPEECH IN NEWS. THIS IS STRANGE AND SIGNIFICANT THAT THIS IS THE FIRST TIME A MINISTER OF RAJAPAKSE GOVT OPENLY ACCEPTED THE GENUINE GRIEVANCES OF TAMILS. NOT EVEN PISSU VITHARANA HAS DONE THAT SO OPENLY.)

Ven. Gangodawila Soma thero (1948-2003) : The political character of a religious leader Wednesday, 10 December 2008 - 5:12 PM SL Time

Fifth death anniversary of Ven. Gangodawila Soma thero today, provides an ideal opportunity to revisit his role in Lanka`s socio-political space. This brief post intentionally avoids discussing his role as a religious leader because (a) this site has more to do with politics than religion and (b) for most Soma thero was discussant of the semi-political programs like `Anduren Eliyata` and not the author of religious text like `Buddha Stupa`.

The term `politics` does not stand for party politics. Unlike the JHU MPs who never hesitated before prostituting their respected positions in society to play a petty political role Ven. Soma thero treated party politics more like a plague. Repeated requests by acquaintances to join racist political parties were politely rejected. Still he was not politically immune. Intentionally or not, Ven. Soma thero has made his mark in Sri Lanka`s political history.
