Sangupiddy Bridge - between Pooneryn & Jaffna

This is the 288 metre Sangupiddy Atlas bridge in the North Western Province of Sri Lanka completed in Nov 2010.
Designed and manufactured by Mabey Bridge and purchased by the Sri Lankan Ministry of Highways as part of the ongoing Regional Bridge Project, the Atlas bridge was originally destined for use as a flyover at the Panadura junction in Colombo. However, having identified the North Western Province as a priority development location and following detailed investigations, the Ministry decided instead to build the structure as an Atlas Bridge in Sangupiddy.

UNP MP Ranjan Ramanayaka today claimed that 350 Lankan housemaids were remaining in a refugee camp in Saudi Arabia unable to return to the country.
Mr. Ramanayaka told a news conference in Colombo that the Lankan embassy in Saudi had sent them to the camp.
He called on the government to take urgent action to get down the housemaids to the country as they were undergoing difficulties without proper food and medical attention.

Reunited with the Vietnamese `girl in the picture`

Kim Phuc, the Vietnamese girl in one of the unforgettable images of the Vietnam War , has been reunited by the BBC with Christopher Wain, the ITN correspondent who helped save her life 38 years ago.
When Chris last saw Kim, she was lying on a hospital bed with first-degree burns to more than half of her body, after a South Vietnamese napalm bomb attack.
It was 8 June 1972 and Chris and his crew had been in Vietnam for seven weeks, covering the conflict for ITN.
