Denounce Sri Lankan identity, readers show ways
Friday, 23 January 2009 - 7:38 AM SL Time
|
As a democratic move, based on principles of non-violence and non-cooperation, the Eezham Tamils should boldly denounce the Sri Lankan identity being imposed on them by the Sinhala government and the world of authoritarians, reads a significant theme of the opinion mails received by TamilNet in response to its request last Friday. The move should begin from the diaspora for whom it is feasible now and it goes beyond any political or organizational affiliation. The diaspora ought to realize that what is more dangerous than the war camouflaged to be against the LTTE is the adamancy of India and international authoritarians not recognizing the national cause of Eezham Tamils .

Hospital bombed, 5 killed, 15 wounded...
Thursday, 22 January 2009 - 7:38 PM SL Time
|
Some 13th century tribal outcasts were arguing with me last night, telling me that Tamils should trust their fate to Sinhala rule and `goodwill`, Ha this is all we can expect of goodwill from Sinhala rulers, while the individual Sinhalese maybe just fine, your rule cannot be trusted.

Hospital bombed, 5 killed, 15 wounded
(TamilNet, Thursday, 22 January 2009, 08:56 GMT)
The Intensive Care Unit (ICU) and the surgical site of the Mullaiththeevu hospital, functioning as a makeshift hospital at Va`l`lipunam school, were damaged in Sri Lanka Army (SLA) artillery fire Wednesday night and Thursday around 12:20 p.m., after the Sri Lankan government declared that the area where the hospital is situated is a `secure zone`, medical authorities at the hospital said Thursday. Five civilians were killed within the hospital premises Thursday, according to Dr. T. Varatharajah, the Regional Director of Health Services (RDHS). The RDHS confirmed that the ICRC had verified that the Sri Lankan military had received the GPS coordinates of the hospital and said he was in constant touch with the ICRC, located just 1 km away from the hospital.

Professionalism in killings foxes them all - for GG :(

By Wilson Gnanadass
The fatality figures in Sri Lanka are perhaps telling a story, which would be that, the on-going north east war focuses progressively on internecine killings.
The death rate in Sri Lanka is steadily increasing to a gruesome toll and pathetically the majority of the murder cases are going uninvestigated.
Political and personal murders have taken place from time immemorial but majority of the murder cases going uninvestigated has never been heard of, in the past.

Yes, we all know that LTTE has 2 or three previously captured armed tanks.
But why is this photoshop job?
The SLA soldier in the photo seems to be totally unaware that an LTTE BMP-1 is just passing him with full of action! LOL!

Bollywood icon Amitabh Bachchan rubbishes Slumdog Millionaire
Thursday, 15 January 2009 - 7:06 AM SL Time
|
Slumdog Millionaire may have been thrown bouquets by western critics and audiences, but brickbats are flying in its direction in India.
Although the film was a big winner at Sunday`s Golden Globes and is seen as a frontrunner for the Oscars, Amitabh Bachchan, Bollywood`s top actor and perhaps one of the most famous faces in the world, has voiced bitter comments about the movie`s portrayal of India.
Writing on his blog, Bachchan said that `if SM projects India as [a] third-world, dirty, underbelly developing nation and causes pain and disgust among nationalists and patriots, let it be known that a murky underbelly exists and thrives even in the most developed nations.`

Fears grow for Sri Lanka civilians
Wednesday, 14 January 2009 - 7:38 PM SL Time
|
Aid organisations say a major humanitarian crisis is unfolding in northern Sri Lanka where government forces are engaged in fierce fighting with Tamil Tiger rebels.
Around 350,000 Tamil civilians are crammed into the area where fighting is taking place, forcing them to endure heavy bombardments and acute food shortages.
Foreign journalists are prevented from entering the conflict zone, but Al Jazeera has obtained exclusive pictures showing civilians fleeing the fighting as buildings burn and craters from heavy shelling pockmark the earth.

Kannivedi Kanavil Varuthu

A song with a humorous take on the plight of Sri Lankan soldiers on the front lines who are forced into a racialist war of conquest due to economic hardships in their home villages.
The song`s lyrics speak of how this one soldier cries out to his mother about how he dreams of his foot being blown off by a land mine every time he closes his eyes, and how he is afraid for his life and why oh why is he here...
