Week 2 November 2008 Too Much Good News To Digest
1) The Devil`s were expelled from Devil Point. This is what a front line soldier would have told you at the beginning of last week. Villages in the North Western Coast were falling to the armed forces like a pack of cards. The task of Task Force One was achieved after months. With the A-32 highway secured, Tamilnet poohed saying that it was an incomplete land route since it did not connect the Jaffna Peninsula without a ferry! It sounded like a dry joke! There is still some resistance from the K-point area. Whether this resistance will surrender dead or alive or will they escape into thin air like they did in the East is yet to be seen.

In what appeared as a sign of religious harmony, the Muslims led by Kirinda Jumma Masjid Chief Imam Mohomad Falil offered alms to the Bhikkhus and laymen who observed sill at Kirinda Sri Bhodirukkarama Vihare on `Ill Poya` today.

What a heart warming moment! The move by these 2 communities cooperating with each other in a much needed moment must be applauded. More people should join into such efforts! Countering racism in style! Well done Sri Lankans! You guys made my day!

Week 1 November 2008 An Eventful Week With Global Joy
1) The beginning of last week saw the cream of Tamil Nadu actors gather to pledge support to the Tamils of Sri Lanka. The protest was more peaceful and not meant to disturb the people of Tamil Nadu. They all decided to fast. Things seem to have silenced now but we in Sri Lanka must understand that the drama which we experienced was only the tip of the iceberg. The whole iceberg will be exposed to us when India goes for elections spring next year. It will be a time when even the cunning brother of our President will not be able to have his way with Central India. He will require a password -Devolution.

Week 5 October 2008 Desperate to Reignite TN

Week 5 October 2008 Desperate to Reignite TN
1) The week started with a loud slap across the shrinking Wanni! The Tamil Nadu political bandwagon had given up their resignation plans. The interference by the Central Government was well planned and left no time for the LTTE sympathisers to wriggle back in. This must have hit hard Prabhakaran even after giving a rare email interview. He must have really thought he was sitting in the Eelam cockpit flying on Tamil Nadu jet fuel. The Central government had the keys!

Week 4 October 2008
1) It is very easy to smuggle weapons into India. These weapons can then be loaded into many hundred fishing boats along with food and then transported across the Palk Straight. The Indian Navy will escort this convoy with consent from the central government and the Sri Lankan Navy will turn a blind eye due to Indian pressure. This much needed sea convoy will then reach the Mullaithivu coast and SLAF will be barred. The donors will then have a nice fish curry meal after engaging with a few selected suffering civilians and determined LTTE cadres. They will return before sunset. This is what you call a Vaiko`s dream! He was arrested this week for simply talking about his many dreams. Who is this fool trying to fool?

Bursting the Tamil Nadu Bubble
Tuesday, 21 October 2008 - 12:34 AM SL Time
|
Euphoria is the word! As far as Canada on one side to Australia on the other, euphoria is buzzing. The Tamil disapora are jubilant that their bretheren in Tamil Nadu have put the past aside and are in the making of Tamil Eelam a reality. The level of Euphoria is such that some are beginning to celebrate.
Down in Sri Lanka, from the airport guards to a simple constable, there is dilemma as to who Karunanidi is? From where has such an unknown powerful Indian emerge for the Tamil cause at such a crucial time, they ask. It is only in this island nation where one can find fear. Fear of division. The level of fear is such that some are breaking with anger.

1) It has been already manufactured. Only the final touches, quality check and packaging are pending. That is what we have been hearing for sometime now. The all important Devolution of Power package! A shift in policy is necessary especially from the Reds and Saffron`s holding the Blue government in power and at a bargain at most times. The choices are simple, make a Devolution of Power package with a tag saying either Made in Sri Lanka or Made in India - forced onto Lanka. These hawks will be forced to have hot soup unable to digest the Devolution of Power taste, no matter where it is made. It is a matter of time when the Big Blue Guy decides to release some pressure from the Big Turban Brother forcing the Reds and Saffron`s to purge their Unitary idea! A Blue federal replacing the wishful Green federal may raise its head!

Tremors Felt In Sri Lanka From India
Thursday, 16 October 2008 - 12:01 AM SL Time
|
The earthquake is approaching. For now there are only mild tremors which are gradually progressing to loud and prolonged ones. Soon the earthquake, claimed to be backed by most of the 80 million Indian Tamils will shake the Sri Lankans rudely. The difference is that we can see it coming but how high it will hit on the Ritcher scale is unknown. Will a tsunami follow? The Sri Lankans, mainly the majority Sinhalese are high on the expensive war drink provided by their President and military leaders. They are waiting for a grand victory which they claim to be visible in their horizon. But is it all turning out to be a visual hallucination? Or will the Indian government sacrifice its power for its neighbour down south?

Week 2 October 2008

1) Monday Morning was not pleasant. Sri Lanka lost another great patriot and a future leader. He was blown away to particles and he did not deserve to die in such a manner. His demise has given rise to many unnecessary controversies with individuals and groups pointing fingers towards the government run by the head of Temple Trees. But what is the point now?? However two individuals must be grinning to themselves. That must be Karuna and Pillayan who have tremendous security after slaughtering many security forces and grinning at the fact that this war hero who brought glory got nothing! A point to ponder! Another individual must also be brought into the picture, who must be having suicide nightmares and that is CBK! Seems like LTTE are going after their old enemies since the new ones are having good luck and the latest addition to this list was Maithripala Sirisena!

Tamils Begin To Celebrate
Tuesday, 7 October 2008 - 6:39 PM SL Time
|
Tamils have begun their celebrations, albeit in a mild manner as yet. It is not a festival but some sense a victory in the horizon, even though not to the magnitude they would like it to be. Friends the Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu, M. Karunanidhi, has threathened the central government that it will withdraw support if the war in Nothern Sri Lanka is not stopped soon. With the entire political apparatus of India on the balance, India has summoned a senior Sri Lankan Diplomat to communicate their displeasure regarding the civilian catastrophe building up in the Vanni.

Wuts Going On This Week??
Saturday, 4 October 2008 - 9:46 PM SL Time

1) Sarath Fonseka burst the bubble... He couldn`t keep it inside.. `The country belongs to Sinhalese` is what he said! But look who is jumping around?? Its not Tamilnet but the Opposition parties! At a time when these opposition must come out and point at corruption and public waste, they are screaming about an army general`s personal view! And Rambukwella jumps into the well too! JHU must be partying and must be wondering whether to send Fonseka to parliment on the National list with Gotabaya! Easy way to get to Parliment i suppose! The North Central Province UNP army General must be jinxed!

Remembering a great son of Lanka

Remembering a great son of Lanka
Three years ago today Sri Lanka lost one of her illustrious sons. He was one of the few statesmen in a country plagued by political nincompoops who are a dime a dozen. Lakshman Kadirgamar was his name.
As is the way with every statesman, from his entry into politics the country gained and Kadirgamar lost even his precious life. He, as Foreign Minister, became Sri Lanka`s bulwark on the international front. The daunting task that he took upon himself in 1994 was to repair the crumbling image of the country which was being projected as a land of cannibals following the anti-Tamil pogrom of 1983. A brilliant lawyer, spellbinding orator and passionate patriot who rose above petty ethno-religious differences which this country is being consumed with at present, Kadirgamar presented Sri Lanka`s case to the world forcefully, eloquently and cogently.

When Kadirgamar was killed, the Indian Prime Minister was moved to tears
Arjuna Hulugalle
When I think of the death of Lakshman Kadirgamar, my mind goes back to the bullets that brought to an end the life of Mahathma Gandhi. Pandit Nehru in a broken voice had this to say:
`The light has gone out of our lives, there is darkness everywhere. For the light that shone in this country was no ordinary light. The light that has illumined this country for these many years will illumine this country for many more years and a thousand years later, that light will be seen in this country, and the world will see it and it will give solace to innumerable hearts. For that light represented something more than the immediate present it represented the living truth . . .. the eternal truths, reminding us of the right path, drawing us from error, taking this ancient country to freedom.`
