Hettiarachchige Reginald Jothipala (February 12, 1936 July 7, 1987) was a prolific playback singer in the Sinhala cinema. Jothipala rendered his voice to all classes of actors ranging from Eddie Jayamanne, Ananda Jayaratne, Gamini Fonseka, Vijaya Kumaratunga, Sanath Gunathilaka, Ravindra Randeniya and several others of young generation stars like Damith Fonseka, Lal Weerasinghe and other newcomers.

Early life

Jothipala was born the first child of a middle-class family from Southern Sri Lanka.[1] He attended St. Lawrence College in Maradana and St. John`s College in Dematagoda. Jothipala would visit tea kiosks during this period to hear music as his family didn`t own a radio.[2]

Son of Colombo Crime Division SSP Vas Gunewardena has broken into Sri Lanka Institute of Information Technology (SLIIT), abducted a student at gun point and assaulted him for several hours. The victim, Nipuna Ramanayake, a 21 year old third year student of SLIIT has been admitted to Colombo National Hospital due to serious injuries sustained in the assault.
A gang of four that had arrived in a jeep bearing Reg. No. GD-0343 and abducted the student at about 12.20 p.m. on Tuesday. The members of the gang who had come with the SSP`s son were police officers in civil and the jeep they had come belongs to the police. The chief policeman`s son had acted violently at the institute before abducting Ramanayake.

Kapuge was born on August 7, 1945 either in the village of Miriswatte in the Galle District or in the tiny village of Thanabaddegama in Elpitiya. He was the second of eight children. He went to school until grade five at Karandeniya Central and later at Dharmasoka College in Ambalangoda, where he initially studied science before switching to music. In 1963, he left Haywood college of music, where he was studying at that time, to follow a degree course in India. In the late 1960s, Kapuge joined the Sri Lanka Broadcasting Corporation.
