The ruling party parliamentarian Duminda Silva is not a suspect in the murder investigation of a presidential advisor, officials say.

Sri Lanka defence spokesman Lakshman Hulugalle told BBC Sandeshaya that the young MP currently recovering after a brain surgery is not a suspect in the Bharatha Lakshman Premachandra murder investigation.

Mr Premachandra`s driver has testified that it was Mr Silva, an advisor to Defence Secretary Gotabhaya Rajapaksa, who first shot at the presidential advisor on trade union in Kolonnawa on 08 October.

In the wake of the raid on a shop allegedly selling `sex toys`, aphrodisiacs and stimulants in Biyagama, the Gampaha District medical authorities said they were conducting further inquiries on two other shops reportedly importing and distributing similar equipment, sources said yesterday.

The stock of `sex toys` and stimulants valued at more than Rs.150,000 had not been registered for sale in Sri Lanka. The items -- which included sex toys meant to stimulate people of both sexes -- were seized during a raid carried out on the instructions of Gampaha District Health Director Linton Pathmasiri.

Buddhists in Kandy constructed two kovils for Hindu devotees in two villages in the Vanni, strengthening the friendly ties between the two communities thus boosting the peaceful environment in the aftermath of the humanitarian operation.
Two Muththumari Amman Kovils were newly constructed in the villages of Madukulam and Sinnathampane in Vavuniya which was a need of the devotees to conduct their religious observances.

An officer of the Vanni Security Forces Headquarters said the constructions were funded by businessmen under the instructions of the chief organizer of the Mahanuwara Thisarana Sarana Bauddha Sangamaya and Chief Buddhist Prelate of Africa Ven. Yatirawana Vimala Thera.

I don`t believe in Natha Deyyo stories. There are many more theories about this issue, but the thing is to find a cure,.... which doesn`t happen in SL unfortunately. Prof Carlo FOnseka and Prof Ajit Abeysekera also pointed out the importance of publishing the scientific data in a reputed journal. Just because of a bunch of academics deny some person, it doesn`t mean he is a crook.

This is the first of two lecture series organized by the Department of Science of the University of Sri Jayawardenapura.

The second lecture will be conducted by Prof. Priyani Paranagama from Kelaniya University, it will be up next week as well.

The Power and Energy Ministry has taken measures to initiate 38 projects to generate electricity using solid waste in Colombo city and suburbs with immediate effect as an initial step to make a considerable contribution to the national grid with non traditional renewable energy sources by 2015.
A Ministry spokesman told the Daily News that these projects will add 259 MW to the national grid. He also added that another eight such projects are under construction.

They will generate 34 MW. Three other projects which are completed generate 12 MW. The spokesman said that the Power and Energy Ministry has concentrated on renewable energy sources as a remedy for the energy deficiency facing the country.

Some Bush critics have for years demanded a prosecution of the former president. They had hoped that the incoming Obama administration would put Bush on trial. No luck.

Now they have changed their focus, filing actions in foreign courts. Last week, these Bush opponents filed an action in Switzerland in advance of a Bush appearance at a charity fundraiser in Geneva.

Shortly after the filing, the Bush appearance was canceled. Bush is in no danger of going to a Swiss jail, obviously. But it`s important that all Americans understand: This use of law as a weapon of politics is an assault upon the basic norms of American constitutional democracy.

Sri Lanka has made electric and hybrid cars duty free, while value added tax and rates of depreciation allowed for used cars has also been increased, a budget for 2011 said.
Another tax, social responsibility levy has been removed and nation building tax reduced from 4.0 percent to 3.0 percent.

But a Treasury official said excise taxes have been raised to recoup revenue losses from other taxes.

Though the price of new cars may not come down, an official said the price of older car could come down.

South African Dr. Sonnet Ehlers was on call one night four decades ago when a devastated rape victim walked in. Her eyes were lifeless she was like a breathing corpse.

`She looked at me and said, `If only I had teeth down there,`` recalled Ehlers, who was a 20-year-old medical researcher at the time. `I promised her I`d do something to help people like her one day.`

Police in two Sri Lankan towns have detained nearly 200 young couples they accuse of indecent behaviour.

Locals complained the young lovers were kissing, cuddling or simply holding hands, reports say.

In the central town of Kurunegala about 350 youngsters have been detained and reprimanded in the past two weeks.

Police have gone further in another town - Matara in the south - where 22 allegedly offending couples are to appear before a magistrate on Friday.
